Madding Crowd

I am finally enjoying Far from the Madding Crowd and choosing reading over Panda Pop. That said, I will not be close to done the book by next week when we're supposed to meet and wondering if we could move book club this month to accommodate. Anyone else on the same page (hah!)?

Do we have a book for June yet? If not we could still meet next week to discuss the first half of this book and then the second half in June. This book should generate a lot of discussion. Just think of what we could do with Bathsheba's name alone. Meeting half way might motivate us to keep trucking through the book.

Anyhoo, let me know what y'all think

Depends how you determine worth buying. Im not sure you'd read it again, but it's a book worth referring back to and has some great lines to underline.

I'm good with spreading it over two months. It is a very worthwhile read and certainly not one you can rush through. My vocabulary is increasing daily! lol
Classics are always worth buying, imho, Anna. ;)

alternatively, we could go watch it next Thursday and then discuss the book next month. Watching it might whet your appetite to read the book. It's playing in Ancaster.....

having a hard time finding questions, let alone ones for half the book.  eeek,  Darlene, please work your magic??!!

Half way would be to the end of chapter 20. I could find discussion questions that target the first half of the book now that I'm almost there. It is a slow start, he spends so much time describing the farmer, then the girl, then how she sat in the carriage...  but once the story gets rolling I'm finding it hard to put down. And it's funny. So persevere! 

We have Francine and Deb, does anyone else want to watch the movie first?

Oh, and Anna, would you recommend it to someone? depends who you're recommending books to, someone who loves classics... absolutely.

I just told Jay not to book any meetings for Thursday because it's Levi's birthday --13-- it's a biggie. He looked at his calendar and told me that I have book club. Oops.

So, I can try to be there after festivities end. If you all chose to see the movie I wouldn't have come anyway (I'll lose motivation to read if I know the ending), so then it all works out.

I still hope to make it but not sure any more. If anything I'll be late and sleepy.

After spending a weekend camping with GEMS (read: no sleep), then going to Kingston with the grad 7s (read: no sleep), then spending last night in the hospital with Levi & his injured foot (read: no sleep) even if I come I'm not sure I'll be able to spit out a coherent thought. I'll see if I can nap later, but having been gone for the past 4 days I have lots to do and Levi has to go to the doctor at 3 and we have soccer  6:30 - 8:30. Jay is busy at work and not in a place where I'm willing to ask him to do everything with the kids for the 6th night in a row. Really, really sucks but it is what it is.
