I requested it from the library. Sounds like a great book.

I am reading "Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy" by Eric Metaxes, which is also very worth reading. Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a German pastor who understood the evil of Hitler's Third Reich and stood up against it. I found the explanation of the build up of Hitler's power very interesting. It's a big book; over 500 pages but very readable. This is the second book I've read by Metaxes. His book, "Amazing Grace: William Wilberforce and the Heroic Campaign to End Slavery " is also very readable. I highly recommend both...and can lend them to you, too.

Hi there,

I just read a book “A Dream so Big”, by Steve Peifer. Found it in a Christian bookstore here in Langley. About a Christian family with 2 sons, who had a 3 rd son born very, very disabled. They knew this beforehand but did not abort, knowing that God had a plan for their son and that plan would be good. He only lived 8 days; on his tombstone they put “Having fulfilled the purpose the Father had for him, he returned to the Father”. But, overcome by their grief, they finally decided to take some time away and signed up to be dorm parents for a year of a missionary kid’s boarding school in Kenya (Rift Valley Academy). Turned out that Africa became a place of healing for them, and they stayed much longer than they ever planned. They started a lunch program in local schools because they realized that Kenyan kids just couldn’t learn without food in their stomachs. They adopted school after school till finally their program was feeding more than 20,000 kids per day! “A
fter one life was lost, tens of thousands were saved” a quote on the back of the book. A very worthwhile read, and an inspiration to dream big. Very impressive what ordinary people can do if they have a dream. And they gave the glory and the credit to God in all these things.

They also have a website, www.kenyakidscan.org

I was going to read the book and then give it away, but now I’m only going to lend it out because it’s a keeper.

Ginny.
