You know how I said that we may have a problem with Catcher in the Rye? I had just started it and almost every other word out of the teenage mouth that is telling this first person narrative story is blasphemy. I asked Jody about it since she had done it with her book club and she said that she had an issue with it because it is very gratuitous and there is not a point to it other than to prove that this teenager is a disgruntled one. I would be much more willing to read this book if he did so using other swear words but he doesn't, instead he swears constantly using our saviour's name. Jody said that she didn't see much point to the entire book and their book club discussed mostly the marvel that this book is still around.

I am quite uncomfortable reading this book, please weigh in on this and let me know your thoughts. If anyone wants to borrow my copy to leaf through it, let me know.

Court.

I agree, new book. I thought there was another one suggested at the time but I can’t remember which?

My memory sucks.. no idea which book we also suggested. One thought is to do the book Courtenay suggested by Donna somebody or other about a finch. OK WAY too early in the morning to think!

The Donna Tratt book is really long. Fine with me because I've read it but might be too much for 3 weeks.
Thanks to Aunt Alida's on line book club I discovered this morning that one of my favourite authors, Geraldine Brooks has a new book out.... just saying....

I changed my mind and came up with a brilliant plan!  :P  We chose Fatherless by Dobson for December.. let's move it up a month for our November meeting. It won't be a difficult read and some already have it on their shelves at home. It will then give us time to figure out our next book.

I spoke with Deanna Smid about our banned book dilemma and she recommended One Hundred Years of Solitude. I have read it, it's a big book but would definitely generate some discussion. Maybe for December if we're meeting after Christmas since we'll have quite a while to read it. I'm not sure why it was banned but I'll look it up.
