• Hadoop admins need general operational expertise such as good troubleshooting skills, understanding of system's capacity, bottlenecks, basics of memory, CPU, OS, storage, and networks.
• Good Knowledge of Linux
  • Security
  • Configuration
  • Tuning
  • Troubleshooting
  • Monitoring
• Familiarity with open source configuration management (Chef, for example)
• Scripting like PERL/ BASH is important
• Able to deploy Hadoop Cluster, add / remove nodes, figure out why a job is stuck or failing
• Configure and tune cluster, monitoring critical parts of the cluster
• Understand schedulers and configuration of it meet SLA and even backup process
• Good understanding of Java
• Excellent communication
