There are 4 main formulae in Lottery mathematics   - each varies according to the Lottery design.

1)Whether a "Bonus or a "supplementary ball" is used, and if Y, whether there are more than one
2) If there is a supplementary ball  is it drawn from the same machine as the main 5 or 6 are drawn from?
3) Are they drawn with or without replacement? (Almost all are without )
4) Does order matter (For some games like Pick4 & Strike it does, in the US, New Zealand & Australia)

In Lotteries it has to be remembered that PROBABILITIES and ODDS are often confused.
PROBABILITIES are conceptually and mathematically different from odds.
  • Odds = the number of outcomes in your favour : the number of outcomes NOT in your favour.
  • Probability =  the number of outcomes in your favour DIVIDED by the sum of all possible outcomes.

Just break it down piece by piece and think how the smaller conditions, the the bonus ball being select from a smaller set,
whether a separate machine is involved, etc. Start from the top prize down. Remember to
factor in the number of way that you did NOT win into the numerator.
