Owners are so busy at work that their four-legged friends don't get the stimulation and attention they need and deserve.Trips to daycare give the dogs an outlet for their energy. Let's not forget that the dogs have a great time, whichhelps relieve an owner's guilt. It's a definite win-win for owners and their pets. Some dogs need human interaction outside the home to help deal with behavior issues like separation anxiety. Coming to daycare helps build a dog's confidence through interaction with other people and dogs.

Most of all, it appears that dogs coming to daycare feel better. They're given the opportunity to expressthemselves in an atmosphere that reinforces good behaviors and encourages them to develop a group ofdog friends outside their own home.

"I've been grooming dogs for over 30 years and have to admit I was very surprised to see the difference daycare makes in the dogs that come to our facility. I knew they would have fun and go home tired because she sets them up to have fun and they love the cookies! However, I have observed that they begin to develop a sense of self-confidence that they didn't have in the beginning and some necessary independence from their owners even though they are happy to see them at the end of the day. They often arrive at the door scratching to get in before "Mom" can even make it up the stairs! I see how happy it makes those owners to know their dog is so excited to get there.

"Most of all, I know that those dogs are alot more safe out there in the dog world because they have learned in a safe environment how to relate to all dogs - big and small. They learn how to approach a strange dog and when to leave it alone. I guess you could say they learn the language of dogs and it protects them in situations out in their world. We have a responsibility to these dogs and their adoring owners and are devoted to their welfare and making sure they are all having a great day. It's no wonder that there's always a gang of puppies following our staff to see what's up next!"

Nail clipping is an important part of the overall grooming service and should be done regularly either by your groomer or your vet. Overgrown nails can become very painful for dogs and lead to health issues.

About the Author Author of five books related to grooming and the business of pet care, Sam Kohl is internationally recognized as a founder of today's grooming industry and one of its leading innovators.

As the former owner and director of the New York School of Dog Grooming for more than thirty five years, he has educated, in the art of professional dog grooming, over 10,000 graduates, and countless others who have read the previous three editions of this book.

Mr. Kohl was the Director of the New York School of Dog Grooming from 1965 to 2000, and has been active in all phases of the pet industry since 1949. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of the Pet Industry, the American Dog Groomers Guild, Ltd., and the International Dog Education Association in Japan.

Mr. Kohl judged the very first national dog grooming contest in the United States. He represented the grooming industry on the New York City Board of Education Animal Advisory Commission.

In 2011, Mr. Kohl was the first recipient of Barkleigh's Sally Liddick Lifetime Achievement Award for his many years of contribution to the grooming industry.

Working with the students and the grooming equipment available at that time made him acutely aware of the lack of tools that would facilitate peak performance. When he was unable to convince existing grooming tool manufacturers of the need for improvement, he turned to designing himself. He established the Aaronco Pet Products company in 1987, designing and manufacturing innovative tools to improve the labor-intensive grooming process.

Extra charges will apply to pets that have fleas &/or ticks. Flea and tick shampoos, dips, powders and sprays do not have lasting effects and will not prevent the problem from re-occurring.

Pets enjoy the open space we have provided in our grooming room and they seem to enjoy looking at the fish tanks, seeing all the activities and the people watching them through the big windows.

We require that all pets be current on all vaccinations and are in good health.

Pets that have an illness that would threaten the health of other pets are not allowed.

A pet that has matted fur must be dematted first or clipped before it is bathed so they can't recieve just the basic bath. We do not just bathe and leave in matts because the matting can cause the pet to develop skin sores.

We use rubber mats for pets to rest on.

All pets are offered water during the day and given breaks as needed. Dogs are offered use of our outside grooming run for potty breaks and the Felines are offered a litter box.

Appointments

As a rule we stay busy with standing appointments for the year. We recommend calling in advance.
