I'm concerned that it may delete photo files that I don't want it to. As I understand it from the software description the app will find duplicates based on the image rather than the file name, which makes sense to me because the majority of my photos won't have specific names that I have given them. For example, I've just done a quick search and there are around 40 photo files called 008.JPG on my system, many are duplicates but about 15 are individual pictures that I want to keep. Obviously I don't want to be left with just one 008.JPG photo after running the app.

Once marked there is a Trash Marked button you can select if desired. That creates an album by the name of Duplicate Marked Photos containing those photos that were marked as duplicates. It will be up to you to actually delete them from the library.

That being said consider using PowerPhotos nstead. It's more powerful and can do what iPhoto Library Manage could for iPhoto, i.e. merge libraries, copy albums/photos between libraries with their metadata (keywords, titles, descriptions, faces, locations). IMO it's a much more worthwhile app.

This is not really a space issue, I have lots, but I have nearly 1000 ebooks that I sometimes file in multiple places. (No, I don't use the dreaded Kindle thanks.) So I may download it in a "holiday reading" folder, then I may also download in the "Publishers folder" and at some point I may have reviewed it and moved it to the "author" folder and then maybe I have forgotten that I downloaded it in the "lost interest in this" folder. So there could be anywhere from 1-4 version of a book floating around.

If I search specifically by name it shows me all of the versions and then I can delete the ones that are in the "wrong" place, but I don't have the time or inclination (despite my love of procrastination by rearranging files) to search 1000 titles. So is there a simple Dropbox search function for duplicates, or do I have to download some kind of app that will do the job. Can you download file titles and locations to a spreadsheet? At least that would let me filter/sort and then go back and find the ones I want to delete.

If that's required, I don't want one that automatically deletes duplicates, I want to pick which ones are required, but if you have any recommendations of on that is easy to use and pretty much straight forward (nothing fancy required, just find the duplicates (or those that may have a similar name since sometimes they get saved with slightly different titles), I'd appreciate the help.

It is not very clear to me which files are created by the system and are maybe required. There seems to be for example copies of things that are for x32 or x64, or for vista and windows 7, according to their names.

How large are these duplicate files? Unless they are sizable and you are running out of space on your hard drive, I would just leave them. Too many people get into trouble when they start deleting duplicate files.

The files are not really big neither I run out of space. I have been using Comodo system cleaner for sometime but never the clean-duplicate-files facility. So when I ran it yesterday it felt like there maybe a lot of useless files in my computer.

Hi hippiemaster. A lot of duplicate files are stored in folders for repair, modifying etc of operating systems and programs. It can save reinstalling programs or searching for an installation disc when modification or repair is required. Kind regards.

Hello.

can i recommend a duplicate cleaner which i use that has caused no problems whatsoever.

It protects the windows files and is totally safe.

go to digitalvolcano.co.uk and use duplicate cleaner.its a great and very safe program to use.

yes duplicate cleaner is free.

And its totally safe.it contains a wide range of settings for protecting important windows files.

ive used this product for about a year now on the recommendation of several webmasters here in the uk.

it has caused no problems at all.

I have used Auslogics duplicate file cleaner in the past and it does a great job also. If you delete something that you really need you can restore it back to the original before you deleted the files.

Find and remove duplicates : Video simili duplicate cleaner is a program that can find duplicate or simply similar video files.Video simili duplicate cleaner compares the actual video content regardless of different format or compression used, while other software only find identical files (digital video fingerprinting).

This app is made available via the Apple App Store, and Microsoft Windows Store with a small cost in order to support further development work. You are of course free to check out the source code on GitHub, report bugs, suggest new features, and contribute code ! But please support my work via the store purchases, and do not redistribute the binary, although of course you may use the code for you own projects, no problemo !

After starting the program you must enter which folders to scan for video files. Folders can be added by typing them in, dragging and dropping a folder onto the window or using the folder browser button next to the input box. On macOS, you can add Apple Photos library(ies) to the search by using the dedicated button on the right of the browse folder button (for more information see the dedicated section. All folders (or libraries) must be separated by a semicolon ( ; ).

If matching videos are found, they will be displayed in a separate window side by side, with the thumbnail on top and file properties on bottom. They are sorted from biggest file size to smallest, to make it easier to save disk space.

Clicking on the thumbnail will launch the video in the default video player installed. Scrolling on the thumbnail with the mouse wheel will load a full size screen capture and zoom it, allowing a visual comparison of image quality. Clicking on the filename in blue will open the file manager with the video file selected.

File properties are colour coded:

Prev and next buttons: cycle backwards and forwards through all matching files.

Delete: Delete the video.

Move: Move the video to folder of opposite side.

Swap filenames: Change filenames between videos.

Beware that a poor quality video can be encoded to seem better than a good quality video.

Trust your eyes, watch both videos in a video player before making your decision of which file is better in your case.

How many image captures are taken from each video. The larger the number of thumbnails, the slower the scanning of video files is.

After deleting all duplicate videos, some additional matching ones may still be found by scanning again with a different thumbnail size.

CutEnds compares the beginning and end of videos separately, trying to find matching videos of different length. This is twice as slow.

The app stores video information and thumnails in a cache, which makes it much faster the second time it is asked to scan a video. Videos are identified by their full path and name. Sometimes you might not want to use the cache if you have renamed some videos to the names of other videos, or if you are very low on disk space (cache can take a few hunded MB per thousands of scanned videos). You can also clear cache as explained below.
