Identical twin filmmakers from Philadelphia by way of London (and
planet Mars), the Brothers Quay generate a powerfully specific vision
that seldom screens in theaters and yet translates poorly to the small
screen. Their combination of homegrown puppetry and meticulously
rendered animation draws on classic literature and music rather than
other pop references, which elevates their projects regardless of the
specific subject - be it skulls and robots, as in Rehearsals for
Extinct Anatomies (1986), or ping-pong balls and bunnies, as in Are We
Still Married? (1991). In other words, all self-respecting cinephiles
must get to this far-too-rare 11-film retrospective. (LR)
~I'm obviously inviting you to the Thur 1.25.07 showing. Worth every
penny... well... in a perfect world it would be $10 even... but that
extra fifty cents is going to break your $20 into $9.50 - therefore
rendering you much weaker to the idea of buying popcorn and soda with
all those loose ones. WORTH EVERY PENNY!
Is that near the st. alps tea shop??
