to Los Alamos Pack 22
Good evening Pack 22 and prospective families,

Please join us at 6:00 pm tomorrow (9/8) for our parent information meeting and first den meetings of the year! Plan on the den meetings lasting about an hour, and the parent information meeting less than that.
We are meeting at the Los Alamos High School Library.  As always, DO NOT bring knives to the meetings at the high school.  Knives are not allowed on the high school campus.

Our fall campout is coming up quickly! Please see the attached pdf for details including a packing list, sign up at this link https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdUSb7__lD0vtObrmXKdaztJNosu-rTUfl5T21hqtJZtc9t6A/viewform?usp=dialog and fill out and return the attached medical forms for everyone attending. Remember that while prospective families are welcome to join us for a few meetings without registering, you must be registered with the national organization to attend the campout.

Other Important Announcements:
  • Next week 9/15 we will have a few members of older Scout troops visit our den meetings to tell us about their camping experiences. If you have questions about gear, need to borrow something from the Troop supplies, or want help figuring out how to set up a new tent, this is your opportunity!
  • Calendar - Our full school year calendar is attached for your reference. I won't attach that every time, but I have the near-term upcoming events at the bottom of this and every weekly email.
  • Medical forms - attached. Medical forms are due to me by next week September 15 for all attendees of the campout, including parents and non-scout siblings. These forms are good for 12 months - we're collecting new ones now but they will last through next summer. Paper copies required.
  • Mailing List - If you've expressed interest in getting more information about Pack 22 but are not yet on our mailing list, you're receiving this email as a bcc. Please contact me if you want to be added to our mailing list and continue to receive emails.
  • Dues - The first $45 dues payment of the year will be due at the Pack meeting at the end of this month. Reach our treasurer Stephen at losalamospac...@gmail.com

    Pack 22,

I'm attaching the popcorn information that I discussed at the parent meeting on Monday (list below). Also if you're signing up in the Trail's End App for the first time, you need the unit code DPG8X to complete that process.
Please sign up for this weekend if you can! As the list below states, we'll be releasing unclaimed slots to other Scouting units mid-week each week, so sign up early.

    Yours in Scouting,
    Dan

    1. Popcorn sales help to fund supplies for den and pack activities and adventure awards (belt loops, rank badges) recognizing cubs’ achievements.

    2. We are planning for a smaller popcorn campaign this year than last year (and will be trying out some alternative fund raising activities), but we still really want all scouts to help. We are asking that each scout do a minimum of 2 hours of storefront selling or $250 (is that correct?) of online sales. Scouts who meet this minimum will get a special reward - last year’s was an ice skating party.

    3. Our first storefront opportunities are this weekend! Parents can sign their scouts up in the Trail’s End app. The Trail’s End app can also be used for touchless purchases this year (no more need for a credit card reader!), so I really recommend that people use it.

    4. The Scouting units in town are cooperating so that all units, including Pack 22’s Cub Scouts, have an equal opportunity to sell at high-volume times. This means that we have divided up the locations by day. Rather than having timeslots available at both the Los Alamos and White Rock Smith’s stores at the same time, Pack 22 has a single location available on Saturday and a single location on Sunday.

    5. However, we have a much broader range of hours available at each day’s location. Rather than being limited to 9am to noon, like last year, locations are typically available from 10am until 8pm, and you can sign up for any hour or combination of hours within that range.

    6. In addition, we have three locations to work with this year, not just the two Smith’s stores. Big R in Santa Fe has agreed to host storefronts for the Los Alamos Scouting units. In fact, our shifts this Saturday will be at Big R, as you’ll see in the Trail’s End app. (Our shifts this Sunday will be at the Los Alamos Smith’s, if anyone is curious.)

    7. All of the Los Alamos Scouting units have committed to allowing each other to use any storefront hours that we aren’t going to fill. Because of this, we will relinquish the Pack’s ownership of any hours for the upcoming weekend that no one has signed up for on the Wednesday prior. (This will also allow Pack 22’s scouts to fill in hours that the troops aren’t using.) If you plan on doing storefront sessions during the upcoming weekend, I am requesting that you sign up no later than 8am on Wednesday morning.

    8. We are only selling popcorn through the beginning of November, and we will be giving up all of our storefront shifts for the weekend of September 20 & 21 — next weekend — so let’s get off to a strong start this weekend!
