Greetings and Happy New Year, LAGS Members and Friends!
It is again that time of year when we invite you to attend our Annual
Banquet and Special Guest Lecture!
When: Saturday, January 22 (dinner begins at 5:30pm, lecture following
dinner)
Where: Los Alamos Christian Church, 92 East Rd, Los Alamos (our usual
meeting location)
Cost: $30 per person
To register, send a check for $30 per person (payable to LAGS) to:
Los Alamos Geological Society
PO Box 762
Los Alamos, NM 87544
Deadline to receive payment and reserve spot is Tuesday January 18.
We are pleased to again offer a delicious home-cooked meal from the
Decadent Table in Los Alamos. Following dinner, we present an
interesting and timely lecture on Earth science and human origins by
Dr. Giday WoldeGabriel of Los Alamos National Laboratory. Dr.
WoldeGabriel’s work to constrain the age of the geologic units in
which the fossils of Ardipithecus ramidus were found recently received
prominent press, and the work was featured in Science, Nature, and on
many television specials. I will post a PDF flyer with additional
information on our speaker and the planned dinner menu in the "Files"
part of our Google group page.
The lecture also presents a good opportunity to renew your LAGS
membership for 2011 at the always-low cost of $20/family/year.
Note to those wanting to attend only the lecture: If you will not be
joining us for dinner but would like to come for the special guest
lecture, please arrive no earlier than 6:30pm. We ask those who come
to the talk but do not attend dinner to please consider a modest
donation to LAGS to offset speaker costs. A donation box will be
located at the entrance to the lecture room. Prime seating shall be
reserved for paid dinner guests – limited seating will be located in
the back of the room for those who choose to come only for the talk.
We hope you can join us!
Warm regards,
The Los Alamos Geological Society Board
