Greetings LAGS Members and Friends!
(Apologies for multiple postings)

Please join the club for our June meeting this evening, Tuesday June
15, beginning at 7:30pm at the Christian Church in Los Alamos.

This month's speaker is Dan Aiken, a retired Freeport-McMoran
geoscientist, current resident of Tucson, AZ, and longtime friend of
LAGS. Dan will be speaking about new insights on the origins of the
Hawaiian Islands. It promises to be a thought-provoking talk with
great photos.

Refreshments will be served.
See you this evening!

Talk Title: Hawaii!! What's going on here??
Abstract: The origins of the Hawaiian islands chain seem straight-
forward and most people, if they think about the islands at all,
believe that a hotspot connected to a plume associated with the
advancing Pacific plate have created the migrating chain over time.
Strangely however the literature is full of contradictory theories on
this subject. The goal of my talk is to review some of these ideas,
relative to the chain and to the Big Island itself. I also want to
give an overview of the development of volcanoes on Hawaii for those
unfamiliar with the island.
