To: Larissa Capelasso <larissac...@hotmail.com>Hi again!- A nice town close to Athens, with a castle where you can go up climbing 999 steps, beautiful narrow roads, architectural and historical interest, the second capital after Greece's liberation from the Turks, is Nauplio! you can go there on a one-day excursionyou get there by bus from Kifissos bus stationAthens-->NauplioSaturday
07:30 – 08:30 – 09:30 – 10:30 – 11:30 – 12:30 – 13:30 – 14:30– 15:30 – 16:30 – 17:30 18:30 – 19:30 – 21:00
Sunday
07:30(Ζ) – 09:00 – 10:30 – 11:30 – 13:00 – 14:30(Ζ) – 15:30 – 16:30 – 17:30 – 18:30 – 19:30 21:00(Ζ) – 22:30Close to Nauplio there is a great archeaological site called Mycenae, in case you are interested, however I don't know if you can make it to reach it with the buses from Nauplio have the time to see and come back to Nauplio because they are few :(, depending on what time you arrive at Nauplio -if you get there early enough you shall have time- you can ask at the bus station the timetable for Mycenae and decide what to do.To go to Kifissos bus station-you take the red metro line and get off at "OMONOIA"-you exit the metro station at the exit called "AG.KOSTANTINOU"-you take the avenue "Ag.Kostantinou" and walk until you turn on the third street on your left hand called Menandrouthere you find the bus 051! You take it and its journey ends exactly at Kifissos bus station! From this station many buses leave for all Greece. Fro Nauplio you look for the label "ARGOLIDA" and buy tickets there for Nauplio. (for the student price I think they ask for ISIC, so it's good to have it)Another destination for a one day excursion is Delphi! a beautiful archeaological site up on the mountain

you go to metro stop "Attiki", it's the red line, you get out and take whatever bus passes from there, you get off at stop "Liosion Station", you can ask anyone or the bus driver to tell you where to get off, show them you want to go to "ΚΤΕΛ ΛΙΟΣΙΩΝ".
-Another nice destination is METEORA, but it's quite hard to achieve to go there on a one day excursion because it's far. Meteora is an area of enormous rocks with beautiful monasteries on them. You take the train to go to a town called Kalampaka and from there you can take a taxi up the rocks to move around -since you are many you can share and it won't be much. Otherwise you can rent a car.
the trains are almost every two hours, I can find the timetable if I don't have a date, so if you are interested tell me the date you want to leave and I can find the timetable. The trains leave from "Larissa Station" !!! (your station!) To go to Larissa station it's very easy, you just take the red metro line and get off at "Larissis Station", the train station is outside the metro station.
From Larissa station you can also take a train to go to Thessaloniki, a co-capital of Athens, a big city, with interesting monuments...
As far as islands are regarded! Since the weather is bad, it's better to avoid far islands!
The closest, island to Athens is just on hour by boat, called Aigina, it's very nice I think, but now it's gonna be quiet of course. However, I think you'll enjoy it, you'll have a small idea of a greek island. Aigina's town and port are nice, it has historical monuments close by, a monastery and church a bit further where many people go to pray because a great saint lived there saint Nektarios, a saint of 20th century! Also there is a great ancient temple called Afaias temple, villages with beaches around the island. You should choose a day with good weather to go there, so the sea is not wavy. Today we had strong south winds and the shipd didn't leave Athens port so leave it for a bit later. You can go on a one day excursion to Aigina.
Besides Aigina, there is a bunch of other islands at a close reach from Athens,
like Poros, Hydra, Spetses, they are all beautiful.
You can pick one of them and go.
To visit any of these islands you go to Pireas port. You take the green metro line from Monastiraki and go to Pireas station, the last one.
If you choose Aigina you go to this place and take the ship
If you choose Poros, Hydra or Spetses you go
Now, you asked for a nice place by the sea...To go to the sea you can take-the tram. You go to Syntagma square and take the tram just outside.two trams leave from Syntagma, number 5 and 4.You can take number 4 and get off at stop "Parko Flisvou" to walk around thereThere is also a nice port called Mikrolimanoyou can get there with green line metro off at station "Faliro".Two other places by the sea, quiet, and further from the city are Varkiza and Vouliagmeni, I live close to these places! To go to either of these you can take an express bus called E22. You take this bus from outside metro station "Panepistimio"For Vouliagmeni you get can get off at "B' Plaz Vouliagmenis"from there you can move to the area on the right of the map and sit at a cafe, or waffle house, or souvlaki restaurant, or you can go to the lake of Vouliagmeni on the right of the map "Limni Vouliagmenis".To go back to Athens watch out to choose a bus stop where E22 stops! For Varkiza with E22 you get off at stop "Mystral"and walk around this area, it's nice, has many cafes and restaurant, small beaches! You have a guide for Athens of course so I can count on it! You shall sea all the historical center of Athens, Acropolis, Ancient Agora, the south slope of the Acropolis eith Dionyssos theater, for sure go around Filoppapous hill and Pnykaup Lycabettus hill to the small church of saint Georgeetc
The national Archaelogical museum is great, Benaki Museumand the Byzantine Museum is wonderfulFor sure walk all around the area called Plaka, Anafiotika, until metro station Acropolis,Also, for night life Psyrri is known for bars etc -however not to stay until late- http://maps.google.com/maps?q=37.978642,23.724461&hl=en&num=1&t=m&z=15around Monastiraki also!and then there are some at Panormou http://maps.google.com/maps?q=37.993423,23.76287&hl=en&ll=37.99207,23.765445&spn=0.011178,0.021307&num=1&t=m&z=16and generally around Zografos area http://maps.google.com/maps?q=37.977678,23.769715&hl=en&num=1&t=m&z=16you can find places with students since the university campus is close! Now, about snow... mmm... what I wanted to tell you is that an athletic group in med school is organizing a one day excursion to the Mount Parnassos for ski or just walk around in the snow for the ones not interested in skiing! It is for 16th February, but it depends on the weather eventually!I can't think of an way to go to the mountain by yourselves... the mountain close to Delphoi is very famous for ski and stuff but I don't know how you can get there besides car.I'll give you the email of the athletic group called fikfiaso you can askand the mobiles of the people who gather applications for the excursion6947 130690 (Christina)-vodafone6978 171457 (Mihalis)-whats up
6977 818638 (Nasos)-whats upI guess it won't be that hard to go along, but I think you also need good equipment for the mountain, which means boots, warm clothes, sunglasses etc...I don't know if I forgot anything.... ouf that was a lot,eh?Ok, let me tell you a couple more destinations in Greece, one very nice city is called Ioannina, it has beautiful acropolis (not like the one in Athens, acropolis means the edge of the city), the city is by the lake, an island on the lake you can visit walk around with great old church...You go there from Kifissos bus stationThe bus to Ioannina leaves Saturday and Sunday: 8.30, 11.00,13.00..It is rather far so it is for two daysAnd last, the place where ancient Olympic games took place, Ancient Olympia! You get there by bus: from Athens you go to Pirgos and from Pirgos to Ancient OlympiaThe bus is from Kifissos bus station and you can take the 7.30 (Saturday and Sunday) which is express, 8.30 (Saturday) and 9.30 (Sat & Sun) (plus later buses but I suggest you leave early to have enough time, since the sun sets early). On the site is says that there are buses that leave for Olympia just after these buses arrive at Pyrgos so you'll go fine! And from what I've heard the distance is small between Pyrgos and Olympia.I guess that to see ancient Olympia and move a bit at Pirgos to eat, you can do it on one day.anything else the next time!Bye!
