Find out what's up with Blue Mosaic, Jews for Jesus' mobile
evangelistic music team, hear about our winter outreaches and more!
Blue Mosaic
Last July we introduced you to Blue Mosaic, our new mobile
evangelistic music team, as they began their time together as part of
our New York City Summer Witnessing Campaign. The team has slowly but
surely made their way across the country, singing not only in
churches, but also on college campuses, in coffee houses and in other
secular venues. They are currently in San Francisco, but will soon be
heading to Los Angeles, then Phoenix. If you live in one of those
areas and know of "open mic" or other secular venues, please contact
Blue Mosaic at
415-515-8904. This team is highly talented, unique and
they can really "bring it" (in terms of music and the gospel). If you
haven't already, check out their website at

Coming up: Wonderful Winter Weekends!
These weekends are an important time of fellowship and discipleship
for those who are part of the Jews for Jesus "Camp Gilgal family,"
started as a summer camp for children, has expanded to teens, and now
is being led, in large part, by young adults who have come up through
the camps themselves. In recent years we've found the children and
teens are eager to have a bit of that camp experience in between
summers. Please pray for God to work in these campers' lives, and to
give the Wonderful Winter Weekend (WWW) leaders fruitful times of
ministry next month. We are scheduled for two WWWs in California:
Southern California from February 4-6, and Northern California from
February 18-20. Our Midwest WWW will be February 11-13, and on the
East Coast, February 4-6.
Thank You for Praying
Last month we reported on some of our December outreaches. Here are a
few more:
From Sergio Danon in Brazil:
"Our Christmas outreach included seven sorties (tract-passing
expeditions). We handed out 13,500 gospel broadsides. It was a rainy
season, but more than once the storms began just as we had finished a
sortie.
"At one point a Jewish man named Isaac stopped to talk. He asked me
my last name, as he wanted to see if I was 'really Jewish.' I pointed
to the broadside, where my name was written, and he said, 'I know a
Danon; he has a company, so-and-so. He is a good friend of mine.' I
said, 'Yes, his name is so-and-so, and he is my uncle.'
"Isaac seemed interested and said he has a great respect for Jesus. He
was not willing to give me his contact, but told me his full name. I
believe we may meet again soon. I am planning to mention the encounter
to my uncle, who is not a believer yet. Please pray for both of them."
From Rob Wertheim in San Francisco:
"Our Bay Area December evangelism push went well. Several of our
headquarters staff volunteered during the month to distribute
broadsides (i.e., gospel tracts). The youth group from St. John's
Anglican Church in Petaluma, California came to assist as they have
every year for over fifteen years. Our team distributed a total of
40,000 broadsides between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Please pray for
salvation for Lawrence, Stan and Nancy, three Jewish seekers who gave
their contact information during this outreach, as well as growth for
new Jewish believer Miriam, whom we also met during that time."
From Stan Meyer in Los Angeles:
The Los Angeles branch Rose Bowl team was led by Cyril Gordon (front
row center, with baseball cap)
"The Tournament of Roses Parade and Rose Bowl game were January 1-2.
Cyril Gordon coordinated and led the outreach, with 35 volunteers and
6 staff. We distributed 38,175 tracts and prayed with one person, a
marine recruiter, to receive the Lord.
"Twenty teens and college students joined us on Saturday morning (more
on that to come) and so did friends from a local Korean Church,
Tabernacle of David. We printed up our own special broadsides for the
parade and for the Rose Bowl game. We handed out ALL the football game
tracts!
The branch was joined by a team of seventeen high school students,
five college student leaders, and three parent volunteers from our
Camp Gilgal family. Half of the high school students were taking part
in a sortie for the first time.
"Unfortunately, the post-parade float viewing on January 2 got rained
out. We went out anyway, but there were very few people and the park
closed early, so we didn't get all the parade tracts handed out. "I
met a Jewish couple who were visiting from Tucson, Arizona. They had
already been discussing Jesus as possibly being the Messiah for the
Jews. I gave them some more in-depth literature (I usually keep some
with me on sorties), and while they did not give their contact
information, they seemed interested in the literature I gave them and
promised to read it.
"As one couple passed by, the girlfriend, who was Jewish said, 'No
way.' Her boyfriend said, 'You need to read this material and make
sure.' And he took a broadside from me for her.
"Tuvya Zaretsky (who wrote the new broadsides) was glad when a man
approached and asked him for 'the new Jews for Jesus pamphlet.' He
explained he's been attending the parade for twelve years and always
looks forward to getting one of our new tracts!"
Two of our associate (college) students, Melissa Weinisch and Isaac
Brickner, led the teens that Stan referred to, and Melissa reports,
"It was a very rockin' SoCal New Year's! This was the third year in a
row for the West Coast Camp Gilgal high school community to gather
together over New Year's weekend. It was great to spend time growing
together and working as a community to bring the gospel to Southern
California.
This year we had the privilege of studying Philippians, challenging
the students to consider what it means to be a servant. The focal
point of this event is when the students join the Los Angeles branch
at the Rose Parade in Pasadena, where they pass out tracts to the
thousands of parade attendees. The lessons through Philippians served
as the perfect rally to encourage us in our call as believers to serve
God! Our team was made up of seventeen high school students, five
college student leaders, and three parent volunteers from our Camp
Gilgal family. Half of the students were taking part in a sortie for
the first time. The others had volunteered last year and came back for
more. In two hours, the group handed out over 6,100 broadsides. All
of the students were encouraged and optimistic about their experience,
and were excited to serve the Lord in that way."
From Melissa Moskowitz in New York:
"Dan Tasman and I led this year's 'New Year's in New York,' which is a
community building/evangelistic event for young adults. Different ones
flew in for the event from as far away as California, Pittsburgh,
Chicago and Phoenix! We gathered together on Tuesday evening,
December 28 to discuss evangelism as well as our hopes and our goals
to be used by God to reach unsaved Jewish people. Wednesday and
Thursday we enjoyed meals that we cooked together, as well as times of
worship and Bible study and "field trips" to the Tenement Museum and a
local art gallery that featured illuminated paintings done on the four
Gospels. We had a good training session for those who had not been on
a sortie before.
"Friday, New Year's Eve day, we went on two sorties and handed out
7,000 tracts. Afterwards, we came back to the branch for a Bible study
and Shabbat dinner together. Then people went out in smaller groups to
ring in the New Year together.
"The team was very single-minded about the evangelism portion of the
event. We had some creative time to dream up possible evangelistic
techniques for the Summer Witnessing Campaign, and it was encouraging
to hear that some of the participants are planning to do summer
outreaches with us. All in all, I felt like this year's program really
built a sense of community as well as enthusiasm to reach out to those
who still need to hear the gospel."
