Shitala Pandey, better known as Sameer Anjaan or Sameer, is an Indian lyricist, known for writing songs predominantly for Bollywood films. He is a Guinness World Record holder for writing the most songs.[1]
Sameer started his career as a lyricist in 1983 with the film Bekhabar (1983).[4] The first film song he recorded was "Maar Ke Kataaree Mar Jaibe" for the Bhojpuri film Bairi Saawan (1984) sung by Suresh Wadkar and Preeti Sagar. In 1990, he came into prominence with songs in films such as Dil and Aashiqui. He won his first Filmfare Award for the song "Nazar Ke Saamne" in the latter. In the following decades he emerged as a leading lyricist in Hindi films, writing the lyrics for over 4,000 songs in more than 500 films.[2][3][5]
Sameer won two additional Filmfare Awards in 1993 and 1994; one for the song "Teri Umeed Tera Intezaar" from the movie Deewana, and the second for the song "Ghunghat Ki Aad" from Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke. In 1998, he won Zee Cine Award for "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai" from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Some of his most successful songs include songs in films like Beta, Saajan, Raja Babu, Coolie No. 1, Raja Hindustani, Anjaam, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Fiza, Dhadkan, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Devdas, Raaz, Dil Hai Tumhaara, Ishq Vishk, Dil Maange More, Tere Naam, Asambhav, Fida, No Entry, Aksar, Dhoom 2, Saawariya, Race, Damadamm!, Housefull 2, Rowdy Rathore, Son of Sardaar, Dabangg 2, Balmaa, and more.
Anjaan is the soundtrack composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja for the 2014 Tamil film of the same name.[1] Its Telugu version is titled Sikander. The soundtrack album features five songs,[2] with lyrics written by four lyricists for the Tamil version, while Viveka had written two songs, Madhan Karky, Na. Muthukumar and Kabilan had written one each.[3]
By August 2013, Yuvan was reported to have composed the first song, a "beautiful romantic song" written by Na. Muthukumar.[4] The "introductory song" was written by Madhan Karky and sung by Ranjith.[5] In January 2014, the composer worked on the remaining songs with Lingusamy and lyricist Na. Muthukumar in Singapore.[6] In June 2014, director Lingusamy stated that Suriya would be singing one song as well,[7][8] which was eventually recorded in early July at A. R. Rahman's studio within two hours.[9] The song, which marked Suriya's playback singing debut, was described as a "breezy, peppy number" and the last to be recorded after which work on the soundtrack was completed.[10] The Telugu version of the song was sung by composer Raghu Kunche. Vennelakanti, Ramajogayya Sastry, Chandrabose and Bhuvanachandra wrote the songs for the dubbed Telugu version.[11]
On 24 July, the makers announced that the planned audio launch has been cancelled,[17] due to security reasons[18][19] and instead, the audio was supposedly released in the stores and online platforms directly on 30 July 2014.[20][21] A launch event was held on the same day at Sathyam Cinemas in a simple manner,[22] with the film's cast and other celebrities being present.[23] Videos of two songs "Bang Bang Bang" and "Ek Do Teen" and a theatrical trailer for the film were screened for selected fans.[24]
Son of veteran lyricist Anjaan (Lalji Pandey), Sameer started his career as a lyricist in 1983 with Bekhabar. Later, films such as Dil and Aashiqui established him as the undisputed champion of romantic songs. He has three Filmfare awards in his list of accolades.
