Biography Prof.Dr. Mehmet H. Omurtag (www.mehmetomurtag.com) was born in Istanbul (Turkey) in 1954. He received his B.S. and M.Sc. in civil engineering from Bosphorus University (Istanbul, Turkey) and his Ph.D. in civil engineering from Istanbul Technical University in the field of structural engineering in 1990. His 26 publications in SCI have more 359 international citations with an h index equal to 13(up to July 2017). His field of interest is linear and geometric/material nonlinearity, static, dynamic and stability analysis of structural systems by finite elements besides elastic, linerar viscoelastic and plastic material behavior. His total number of publications is more than hundred. He has directed international joint projects besides national research projects, published 12 books on engineering mechanics about dynamics (3rd Ed., 2015), strenght of materials Vol.1 (5th Ed., 2015), Vol.2 (3rd Ed., 2013), statics (6th Ed., 2015) and static-strength of materials (2015), beam finite elements (2010) in Turkish. Prof.Dr. Omurtag was the recipient of the Turkish Academy of Science awards for various published books in Turkey in 2008, 2009, 2011, and 2013. He became the advisor to the rector of Istanbul Technical University for three different periods (2004-2008, 2012-2016, 2016-cont.) besides varous other administrative positions in the same University. Prof.Dr. Omurtag was in Ruhr University-Bochum (Germany) for two joint research projects between 1996-1997 and in 2000 and by the Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD) scholarship in 1998. Prof.Dr. Omurtag is married has two daughters.
