Let us start with listing down what all things we can include in the report, or in other words what all we have done. Few things from my side:

  • Literature Survey: A tough one to summarize but can form the major component of the report
  • OMNET++ in general
  • INET extension
  • Military Scenarios (currently in progress)
Kindly add details to above or any broad topic that I have missed.

Protocol requirements.
Detailed summary of the routing protocols-the doc which we had prepared earlier.

A small heading specifying the MANETS in general.

A heading specifying the Tactical Network (i.e a military grade MANET ) and details about it.  We can add some images in this section :D

A heading specifying our problem statement  and  our final Objective (i.e To design and simulate a routing protocol for tactical MANETs) .

Literature survey should contain following subheadings -
  • What are the different classes of routing algorithms in MANETS ( all classes of protocols should come under this)
  • Then define proactive, reactive and Hybrid classes in general.
  • Then the different protocols that we studied for each of these classes. Details about them and the parameters ( like end to end delay etc) for which they performs well and for which they do not perform well.
Then there should be a requirement analysis of our HatNET routing protocol.

Theoretical comparison of the protocols studied.

Simulation of the protocols on a same scenario.  Inside this we can write OMNET++ and INET related things.

How exactly do we cover literature survey? Coz reading someone else's papers isnt a big deal to write; we can only talk about the QoS matrix comparison that we did.

We can describe each protocol in short in the same way as they were described in this paper -  A review of routing protocols for mobile ad hoc networks by Mehran Abolhasan, Tadeusz Wysocki , Eryk Dutkiewicz

I think we should get started on the report. Long holiday it has been for everyone. So as per the outline discussed by Shubham we have the following topics. Let us divide them and get working:
  • General Description of a Tactical MANET
  • Our problem statement and defined objectives
  • Literature Survey Details:
What are the different classes of routing algorithms in MANETS ( all classes of protocols should come under this)
Then define proactive, reactive and Hybrid classes in general.
Then the different protocols that we studied for each of these classes. Details about them and the parameters ( like end to end delay etc) for which they performs well and for which they do not perform well.
  • Requirement Analysis of HATNet
  • OMNET++ - An Introduction
  • INET extension- a brief description
For the 3rd point of the Literature Survey we all need to contribute one para description of the routing protocols that we studied. I am taking up General Description of a Tactical MANET

@Satya, Keshav: Are you guys required to submit the mid-sem report? I mean are you supposed to contribute to this report? I guess we all should since the initial work was carried out by all of us together.

Yeah, we are also supposed to submit a midsem report and we will also be contributing for the same.

I can write about the general description of a proactive , reactive and hybrid routing protocol + specific Hybrid routing protocol that I had researched for.

I am done with the General Description of Tactical MANET and the associated challenges. Now taking up "problem statement and defined objectives"

Let us all try to visit the lab as often as we can. I am free on Monday series and so should mostly be found in the lab. Also during Tuesday series I will try to be there post lunch. Let us target two things:
  • The report
  • Some substantial progress in OMNET++ simulations
to be presented on coming Saturday.

@Tanay: Answering your old question like How to go abt writing the literature survey? Refer to my TORA description. Wrote in the way suggested by Shubham.

Finally back on campus and free to do some work. First of all, can you fill me in with some updates about the Saturday meeting; did you guys have that? And what's next; mid sem report on Saturday.

I'll check the report that you shared and get on with my part of literature survey right away. I think for OMNET++, we should stick with the work that we were individually working on, like I had taken mobility and then designing some classes of soldiers.

Can someone guide me through what all is required to be covered in the INET section?
By now,I have thought of including these points.
  • a brief introduction
  • mobility patterns
  • a brief description about common modules used in manets

Also other than specific work, what general category is left to be documented? I think OMNET++ is done and Itiyama is taking INET, tell me what I can write on.

i don't know much about the mobility patterns in INET.It would be great if you could write it down. Also, besides the points I mentioned
is there anything else we could write about INET?

I am done with the first two points and my part of the Literature Survey. Now starting with the requirements analysis of HATNeT. Would require certain help from you guys as well as Sir to fine tune it.

Others, please contribute one para for each protocol of your Lit Survey. Let us finalize the report by the end of this week.

Done with the mobility patterns for INET and almost finished with the literature survey. Working on the Google Earth demo, lets see if it works tomorrow.

Anyway, what the hell is this HATNet thing and when did we come across this in our project?

are it is just a term Sir had mentioned in one of his slides.Nothing imp.refers to the tactical network which we were supposed to design

Some suggestion and scenarios for Google Earth demo. Like what type of soldier, mobility etc. Will try out if this can be customized to whatever we need. Anyhow, I'm not very sure that this simulation really takes care of the actual terrain in terms of interference from hidden nodes etc. etc.
