I keep a bowl of these around. Much more satisfying than marshmellows...

Just a couple of bricks will do. End it all. Like the popular bumper
sticker says: "Kill Your TV".
In my personal universe, television is, and mostly has been for many
years now, a vast mind rot wasteland.
I gave it up over 20 years ago and do not regret one second of doing
so and have never returned.
Oh sure, I might have "missed" some things (and VERY FEW), but most
of those things I found very EZ
to live without, and also, some of them I later got to see anyway via
VHS (and now DVD)
and WITHOUT the ADVERTISEMENTS. (IMPORTANT!) Not exactly the same as
"watching TV"
and the available airwaves.
My older TV set (which still works great!) has been used as a
"monitor", just like a computer monitor,
(What's the real difference here? None.) and so therefore I can pick
and choose what I wish to view
at my own time and convenience, and again...WITHOUT the
ADVERTISEMENTS, 99% of which are
complete insults to the human intellect, anyway. (But also with about
1% that can actually be funny, or even entertaining)
Why anyone would willfully WANT subject themseleves to THAT has long
been way beyond my comprehension,
especially when there has always been a vast and endless supply of
books and other reading matter of an infinite variety
of to engage one's time and intellect in, along another endless sea
of great films, and etc.
My own personal belief is that the main reason why, collectively, we
are overall are now such a dumbed down nation
is generations of regular and constant TEE VEE watching / addiction.
And as for the "option" of cable television,
the few times I have ever checked it out somewhere (usually in a
motel room while on the road, and only out of curiosity),
I saw VERY little of anything that had any REAL substance and worth,
but a LOT of absolute crap, and even
MORE of ADVERTISEMENTS, and even some CHANNELS that are DEVOTED to
that! Aye aye yiiiii!
Plus, with cable, or whatever, you have to PAY for it. Why anyone
would want to pay
(and pay more $ to some bloated pig corp(se) ) for a "service" that
provides mostly crap, is also beyond my understanding?
But, I am also glad that I have taken a peek at cable on rare
occasions (and for free), and also every so often see a few
minutes of "regular" tee vee in some pub or some other places,
because it ALWAYS reinforces my decision why to have
given it up all those years ago.
Along with books, etc, there are also other non-TV activities such as
being outside doing whatever, or being out somewhere
with folks and engaging in good conversations, or going to a good
movie, and much more. And, oh yeah....music making. :-)

All thru the years that I have been TV-free, I have often encountered
people who
were not only SHOCKED (no kidding) to learn that I did not watch TV,
but they also usually said something else that to me was equally as
shocking,
and actually pathetic, or maybe just only a sad reflection on our
society.
(But to me, still disturbing, nonetheless, and yet still kind of
humorous, as well).
The next thing they would say is:
"But...but...HOW do you STAY INFORMED?" Eeeeeeeeee!!!!
No damn kidding. I have heard THAT numerous times!
At that point, I did not know whether to just burst out laughing in
their face,
or to turn away quickly and run off screaming.
But, I did sometimes try to let some of them know in some way
possible that they were not exactly
and truly being all that "informed" (or in some cases, at all), or
at least not very much so,
and usually not to any real depth, from something like major corps
(es) controlled TV.
As to be expected, I also usually got nowhere with that effort.
Often at that point, their eyes would usually just glaze over, and
etc...
But, I also got a kick out of the ones that would actually try to
"defend" the "news" and "information"
that they were receiving from such "sources"...."sources" that they
saw as "valid", only because hey,
"everyone else" was doing the SAME, as well.
(ngn...ngn...ngn...snap! crackle! pop!)

PS- I really liked this part. Words to live by...

> to fit it into my life now.
