MANAGING DIRECTOR (ARTS) POSITION: 30-HRS PER/WK
Small intercultural arts hub seeks dynamic managing director to supervise its operations. non-competitive pay, with opportunities that are above the competition.. .

About the Poppy.. . .

The Red Poppy Art House
http://www.redpoppyarthouse.org/
The Red Poppy Art House is an international neighborhood micro-center for artistic and intercultural life in San Francisco; an innovative small-scale multidisciplinary performance space that has been charting the course of an alternative model for community engagement in the arts.

The Innovation of its Model - Relationship Generation
Our mission is to forward the development of a relationship-centered organizational model that amplifies social networking through its internal culture, making a vigorous hub for the flowering of diverse relationships, both personal and professional. We see relationship generation as the vital “social capital” that attracts the creative thinkers, skilled professionals, committed artists, and community-driven organizers, that together make our team vibrant and effective in its work, and always in a state of continual renewal. Leveraging this social capital, we achieve programatic results that would otherwise require twice the financial capital. This is our experiment to make a cultural flourishing regardless of the economic constraints that characterize today’s arts economy. For 2011, we will be piloting this model through five selected artist initiatives.

Programs
Programatically, we produce yearly: 150 performances (international and multidisciplinary), 48 family art days, 40 artist salons, 6 MAPP happenings (www.sfmapp.com), artist residencies, international exchanges, workshops, and a multiplicity of informal gatherings.

Your Staff
We accomplish this comprehensive programming through an interwoven staffing structure of 21 part-time core staff members (stipend-paid/volunteer), and with an additional 31 weekly rotating volunteer shifts that support our pubic events. Our core staff is divided into four self-directing teams focused in the areas of: performing arts presenting, community engagement, social network development, and marketing.

Leadership Team and Partners
The Managing Director will be supported by the Poppy’s Leadership Team. This team is formed by the organization’s founding director and lead artist, the former founding director and award-winning poet from one of Chicago’s major literary centers, a strategic planner formerly with the UN and as Advisor to the Ministry of Culture in Bogota, Colombia, a San Francisco-based leadership consultant, a resident artist/vocalist and 2009 TED Global Fellow. (here, we are endeavoring to “name-drop,” but without dropping names, simply to say; we have some wonderfully creative people that will be backing you).

For 2011, we will be partnering with San Francisco’s De Young Museum, which has selected our founding artist-director, Todd Brown, as one of their 2011 Artist Fellows. Among our partners and resident artists for 2011 are: Zambaleta World Music School, The Embodiment Project (Dance/Theater), Artivist-vocalist Mamacoatl (Mex/US), Mi’Jan Celie’s research in Community Collectives (Brazil/Ghana/US), Nicole Lambrou’s “Connections” (Artist Stories & Interviews) and Colombian Storyteller Pablo Velez.
