Hello,

Greetings for the day!!

I am a newbie to LooCI. I have installed in windows using Virtual box.
Installation was successful.
I tried to do the first deployment TempSensor. The deployment always
return 0. What is the hex address that i need to specify. Do i need to
use any hardware mote connected to the system to sense the
temperature? Where is the temperature value sensed and returned
from?
This would be a great help.

Thanks in advance,
Kavita

Hi Kavita,

You actually need 2 SunSPOTs to successfully execute a deployment. A
basestation needs to be connected to your pc and a free remote SunSPOT
with the LooCI runtime predeployed and active. The LooCI runtime is
activated by switching on or resetting a SunSPOT; this should result
in the first led turning red. After this, you can use the gateway
application (or LooCIManager, they are the same) to make a deployment
on the remote spot (this is done wireless via the basestation), use
the address of the SunSPOT to do the deployment.

After deploying the TempSensor component, there are a number of things
to do before you can get temperature readings. The first step is to
activate the component, the second is to wire the temperature readings
interface to anywhere you want the readings to go. Third, you should
make sure that the receiving side that you selected is also active and
is wired to receive the temperature events. The commands to execute
the activation and wirings are shown in the LooCI wiki:
http://code.google.com/p/looci/wiki/Commands

I hope this helps you further! If not, let me know!

Best regards,
Klaas

Hi Klaas,

Firstly, I would like to congratulate for your excellent work "LooCI".
Thank you for the information. Can you suggest me some suitable hardware for this experimentation to perform. Can LooCI be used as a simulation tool for research in WSN?

Thanks in advance,
Kavitha.

Hi Kavitha,

Thanks!

We have 3 implementations of LooCI which are all targeted towards different hardware platforms. We have a SunSPOT version which are used on SunSPOT nodes (which is the only one which is installed in the VM you are using in VirtualBox), we have a Contiki version which is used on AVR Raven motes and an OSGi version which can be used on any platform running OSGi. More info is available at the LooCI google-code page.

We'd like to be able to simulate WSNs and deploy applications on them using LooCI, as this would allow us to evaluate and use LooCI on a larger scale, but at the moment we only support the real-live hardware implementations and haven't spend time yet investigating other simulation tools that we can reuse for this.

Cheers,
Klaas
