The scanner worked previously, but it doesn't anymore. So I deinstalled all Canon software, incl. drivers using USBDeview. After restarting the laptop, I started the Canon driver installer mp68-win-9000fmkii-1_00-ejs.exe, then followed the instructions on screen. The last step is connecting the scanner to a USB port and turning it on. Windows then tries to install the driver, but it fails:

Hi there! I have downloaded the software from the German Canon website and it's a while ago. That's the dmg's name and version: msd_-mac-9000fii-19_2_0-ea11
I didn't need to install any driver.

SilverFast also features a dust- and scratch removal tool. Instead of Canons FARE feature, SilverFast uses the so called iSRD. iSRD uses the data picked up by the infrared channel to remove disturbing particles just like FARE does. If you click the adjacent picture, the red marked image section will open up in 100% zoom. Then, the picture will alter between the scam with and the one without dust- and scratch removel. For better recognition of the defiled areas, they have been marked red. Especially in the homogenous areas of the sky, it is clearly visible that the iSRD feature works very well with the CanoScan 9000f Mark II.
For the Canon CanoScan 9000F Mark II there is, available on the net, a color profile made by an unknown author, here you can find a copy: canon_9000f_mark_ii_icc.tgz. Originally I found the file on archive.org.
