Cutomer Tom V. sends along his nifty mounting of the VO Porteur rack using the P/R fork crown bosses. The hardware he used is included in the Surly rear rack harware kit, which unfortunately ain't cheap. (MSRP $60 QBP part # RK0121). He still has to trim the excess strut to clean it up but report the rack is much improved.

Note: if you purchase a Porteur rack from me the hardware kit will cost $45.

If you move the strut mounts right up against the vertical sections of
the "backstop" of the rack, or even better, to the outside of the
"backstop", the resulting triangulation should make for an even
sturdier connection (rectangles have a habit of turning into
parallelograms, while triangles stay triangles). The struts appear
long enough, at least to move the connectors up against the vertical
struts on the rack, if not beyond.

Cheers,

Gernot
