Coinsare collectible items in Cuphead used to buy things from Porkrind's Emporium. There are 56 coins in total, 40 from the base game and 16 from The Delicious Last Course. The presence of coins scattered around the islands is explained by Quint, who happens to be a coin himself.
Even though the main goal of Cuphead is to take down the bosses, it's easier said than done, especially when you don't have a lot of options to fight. Thankfully, though the Peashooter is a reliable weapon, it can be limited which is why other kinds of Weapons are available.
They can be obtained from the shop known as Porkrind's Emporium, which has a location on every island. However, Porkrind is running a business and will charge you several coins in order to buy one of his Weapons or Charms, so you'll need to start collecting and saving up coins.
Coins are the only collectible that you can get in Cuphead, but they're not always easy to find. The most profitable place to get coins are the Run n' Gun levels. Each has five coins scattered throughout and with six levels, providing 30 coins in total. Both the base tutorial and Ms. Chalice's tutorial offer a coin each.
Another way to get your hands on some cash is by talking to NPCs. Some of them, such as the Apple Kid on Isle One and the Paperboy on Isle Four will give you coins just for talking to them. Then there are NPCs like the Lollipop girl on Isle Two and the Juggler on the same one who will give you a coin for completing certain tasks (finding a shortcut and performing four parries in a row, respectively).
Then there's a new rewarding way to get coins introduced in The Delicious Last Course DLC. In addition to the bosses, there's a new challenge in the form of the King's Leap. At certain points on Isle Four, a rope ladder will descend allowing you to reach a King in the sky. He will challenge you to defeat all of his champions without Weapons or Charms. If you manage to defeat all of them, you'll gain a total of 11 coins.
Lastly, there are some straggler coins that can be found in the overworld by looking in the right places. Once you find these, you'll have all the coins to buy everything in the shop.
Since its launch, Cuphead has earned a reputation of being an ultra difficult platformer, with some even comparing it to the Dark Souls franchise. Considering this, gamers will need every edge they can get in order to beat all of its stages and bosses. Luckily, there are ways to make the game easier, like making a control scheme change, as well as purchasing new attacks and buffs.
To buy items in Cuphead, players have to visit the store, which is located in easy to find locations on each world map. The store, run by the eyepatch-wearing pig Pork Rind, sells different items in exchange for gold coins. However, obtaining the necessary coins is no easy task.
In Cuphead, there are two main ways players can earn gold coins. The first way is by completing the Run and Gun levels, which play out like traditional platforming stages. The second way is by finding coins that are hidden throughout the world map. Sometimes these coins can be found behind objects, and other times they can be earned by completing objectives for NPCs.
Players will earn their first coin by completing the tutorial. Afterwards, some more free coins can be obtained by chatting with the apple man sitting on the bridge in World 1. After speaking with him, there's only one more coin to collect in World 1's map, but getting it is easier said than done. If players hope to find this hidden coin, they first have to beat all the bosses in World 1.
Once all the bosses have been defeated, talk to the razor blade person that is located southwest of the Floral Fury level. Players can see a coin hidden in the trees just to the left of him. Push Cuphead into the trees and press "A" to collect the coin.
There are three hidden coins to collect in World 2. The first can be found behind the green cart south of the Die House. For the next one, players need to find World 2's shortcut. To do this, walk behind the Wally Warbles level (it looks like a birdhouse), and then go to the east to move behind the mountains. After coming out on the other side, talk to the girl standing next to the Funfair Fever Run and Gun stage, and she will reward you for finding the shortcut.
For the final hidden coin in World 2, talk to the juggler located just south of Fiery Frolic. He challenges Cuphead to parry four times before he will give up his coin, so go into any level in the game and parry four times. Upon accomplishing this, the juggler will give up a coin.
By collecting these hidden coins, players should have an easier time getting through all of Cuphead's stages. Of course, they will also need to collect the coins in the Run and Gun stages, but even with all the coins, the game will still prove to be quite challenging. However, with enough practice, Cuphead players may one day be skilled enough to beat it without taking damage or tackle the game's speed run record.
Perilous Piers is one of six "Run & Gun" levels in Cuphead. These are more traditional platforming levels. In each level are five gold coins that allow you to buy new guns and charms at Porkrind's Emporium. Stay on your toes and collect them all!
If you complete a "Run & Gun" level without using your gun to kill enemies you will earn the grade "P." Doing this on all six will unlock the Black & White mode. Talk to the turtle in Inkwell Isle III to unlock the color filter. Below are some tips to clearing the levels without firing your gun.
There are a few secrets to uncover in Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course, including a hidden coin that can be collected as soon as players get to the new island. Collecting coins will allow players to unlock the new weapons and charms available in Porkrind's Emporium. A few of the new items that are available work well against the bosses on Island IV, so it's recommended players grab the area's hidden coin right away.
Along with the hidden coin, players can quickly claim three more as soon as they start their adventure on Island IV. In the town square, there's an NPC holding a newspaper. This Cuphead character, inspired by classic cartoons, is standing beside the cart that presents a tutorial for Ms. Chalice. Speaking to this NPC will automatically award players three coins, which can be used to purchase some of the new items. However, for more expensive gear, players may need to grab the hidden coin as well.
The hidden coin on Island IV is at the end of a secret path that leads behind the bakery. From the town square, players can go across the stone bridge and to the left where the Porkrind Emporium is. In between the shop and the podiums where the three climbers stand, there's a narrow path that leads to the hidden coin. Players can go behind the trees and keep following the path until reaching the hidden coin at the end. Claiming four free coins right away will allow players to purchase one or more of the new items available in the shop.
After collecting all the free coins on Island IV, players can visit Porkrind's Emporium to unlock a new weapon or charm. The new weapons available are Converge, Crackshot, and Twist Up. Each of these guns vary in damage dealt and the fire differently, so it can be difficult to decide which one to buy. Additionally, the Heart Ring and Broken Relic charms can also be purchased from the Porkrind Emporium.
Although each weapon has its advantages, the best new weapon is Converge. This gun fires across the entire screen in three lines, so it's great for clearing out multiple enemies at once. Using the aim button also narrows the distance between the three shots so players can focus their damage and defeat each boss in Cuphead. Alternatively, players can purchase Crackshot or Twist Up, but they're a bit more challenging to use. Crackshot shoots broken projectiles that cover a good portion of the screen, but it's a weak weapon. Twist Up does a decent amount of damage, but it's very difficult to use accurately and it only shoots upward. Converge combines the skills of the other two guns, so it's the best option for purchasing a new weapon.
The Heart Ring charm is great for players that are good at parrying because it grants an additional health point on the first, third, and sixth successful parry during a fight. However, if players want to use Ms. Chalice, the Astral Cookie charm needs to be equipped, so Heart Ring can't be used with that particular character. Although the description is vague, the Broken Relic charm can actually be used to unlock a secret boss. In order to solve the tombstone puzzle in Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course, the Broken Relic charm needs to be equipped, and players will need to use clues given by the climbers near the Porkrind Emporium. Solving the puzzle unlocks a secret boss fight, so buying the Broken Relic using the hidden coin is a better purchase than getting the Heart Ring charm.
The normal run of the level is relatively straightforward. It will take some time to learn. Each section presents their own problems especially starting out. The first was probably the hardest for me, but that might be more related to the pains of the pacifist run to be honest.
The Miners will throw their pickaxes like a boomerang. They'll be aimed to do you current position (which is where they will stop) and then return to the Miner. If you kill a miner after the throw, the pickaxe will continue off from it's return path off the screen. Additionally, a few seconds after killing the miner, a new one will drop a rope down from above the screen to replace it. There is no way to completely remove the miners. Only ways to temporarily remove it.
The other major component here are the gold scales. These will always appear in pairs with the one you're standing on causing the other rise and the one you're on to fall. They aren't too troubling, you just need to be moving. Even constantly jumping while on one is sufficient for safety.
