~~PAC GIVES BACK! (Japanese Tsunami Relief!!)~~

Last Thursday, on March 11, 2001, an 8.9 earthquake occurred near Sendai, Japan triggering a large tsunami up to 10 meters that struck Japan’s Pacific Coast. The tsunami traveled into Japan’s inland area destroying a devastating amount of homes, farms, businesses, factories…etc. At least 1.4 million households had gone without water since the quake struck and some 1.9 million households were without electricity. According to officials, more than 1,400 people were confirmed dead – including 200 people whose bodies were found Sunday along the coast – and more than 1,000 were missing in Friday's disasters. Another 1,700 were injured. An estimated total of 10,000 are feared to be dead. In addition, thousands of Japanese residents face the dangers of exposure to fallout radiation as two major nuclear power plants in Fukushima and Onagawa exploded after the earthquake occurred. According to the United Nations, search and rescue teams from 45 countries had been offered to Japan including various other humanitarian organizations such as the American Red Cross

However, Japan needs MORE HELP and relief! If you want to help out and do something about this international disaster, PAC will be accepting donations during our regular general meetings Thursday at 4 PM in front of Robex all throughout March. We are asking for canned food donations, any spare clothing still in good condition, and blankets. All of these donations will be sent overseas via the American Red Cross. You can also donate $10 to the American Red Cross by texting REDCROSS to 90999. For additional information or if you have any questions, contact your Philanthropy Chair, Christian Monsalud at chris.m...@gmail.com or at (858) 444-5069.

And on behalf of the Pilipino American Coalition at Cal State Long Beach, we offer our condolences to all of the victims and to any of our members who are affected by the Japanese earthquake and tsunami. May we pray to all those victims and the ones in need.

$$$PENNY WARS$$$

Now that we have all been placed in our families let's start our friendly KAPATIDS competitions!! And to starts us off we are bringing Penny Wars back! What is Penny Wars?

Well every family has a jar/tin that pretty much acts like a piggy bank. You insert coins or dollars as you please. Your Family gains points for every Penny successfully accumulate into your bank. But other Family's can easily sabotage your bank by adding dollars or silver coins into your bank. Those count as negative points that are equivalent to the value of the coin/dollar. And this goes through the whole semester (even during PCN). We will count everything in the end and see which family got the most points! So start saving up them coins everyone!!

Long story short

Penny= plus one point

Silver coin= minus value of coin/dollar in points (i.e Nickel -5, Quarter -25, Dollar -100)
