Dear members of the Pilipino American Coalition,
My name is Constancio Arnaldo and I am a CSULB alum. I was recently hired to teach in the Asian American Studies department this upcoming academic year. I am writing to ask if you would consider enrolling in my course titled, ASAM 353: Filipina/o American Contemporary Experiences. The course examines the social, economic, political, and cultural dimensions of Filipina/o experiences in the United States from 1965 to the contemporary period. The course will also explore issues of post-colonial identities, the Philippine diaspora, patterns of labor, strategies of resistance, and expressive forms of culture.
As an alum, I was involved with various student led organizations, and served as officer and general member of the Pilipino American Coalition. I have fond memories of my involvement with PAC (Friendship Games, Sportsfest etc.) and continue to stay in touch with many of it's alumni. After completing my MA in American Studies at the University of Hawai’i, I came back to teach at CSULB and served as co-adviser for Zeta Phi Rho Fraternity and the Pilipino American Coalition in 2006-2007.
I am excited to come back to campus to hear about your experiences and perspectives on issues affecting the Filipina/o community in particular, and the Asian American community more generally.
Please consider enrolling in this course, as it will provide you with an opportunity to learn about the contemporary experiences of the Filipina/o community.
The class # is: 18662 and meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:00 to 3:15 in PSY-152
If you have any other questions or concerns, you can email me at arna...@illinois.edu.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Best, Constancio Arnaldo
