Doug writes "I quote "[refs] come from pages in Kierkegaard, Post-Scriptum aux miettes philosophiques, trans. by Paul Petit
(Paris, Gallimard, 1941)."
Thanks, Doug, for this reference to "miettes" which means CRUMBS. From a HOLISTIC point of view, which includes the spiritual-mystical realm, there is the consciousness that e.g. Kierkegaard was aware of and insisted on in his own fragmentary way. I would say that part of Lonergan's achievement was his deployment of GEM in Insight, followed by his helping us address in functionalized, specialized ways the contributions of the geniuses who have developed modern math and the brilliant scientiic breakthroughs in the subatomic and biological realms. As with bread and pastries, the crumbs can amount, in the hands of capable bakers. to wonderful meals. But the sad, pitiful realities of HUNGER in many parts of the underdeveloped and//or exploited parts of our globe call for the insights and intervention that, e. g. Pope Francis and now Pope Leo jave been urging politicians and diplomats to address...... Being attentive, intelligent,, rational and responsible in "reduplicative" ways is CRUCIAL...... At least, ethically-motivated cartoonists seem to have the knack of "pointing" this out. Unfortunately, the arms race is part of the reality that NEEDS to be addressed. OVERCOME--but not by more wars. The haunting question is HOW can this be realistically addressed in a polarized, all-too often BRUTAL world? John
