Adam Tooze's story from "Crashed"(2018)
especially the section on how China managed its economy through
the 2008 financial crisis is both compelling and illuminating,
and in my view highly instructive for our present situation. It
presents certain concrete content for my urgings in certain
quarters for a Christian-Marxist dialogue or for its renewal. I
say 'Christian-Marxist'', I could just as well say
'Liberal-Marxist' because Christianity in general and for the
most part has become captured by liberalism in my view. And the
deafening silence among intellectuals on these matters that I'm
finding in so many quarters makes me deeply worried that the
Western intellectual culture in general and for the most part is
unable to imagine any future beyond capitalism and liberalism.
