At a small gathering recently, someone who has studied political-economy professionally for most of their life, said bluntly that Mark Carney is really a Canadian version of Trump in the U.S.. The argument is that he is very much aligned with a right-wing agenda for Canada, it is just that he smiles more and is more polite in his presentation.
What he is doing to the Liberal Party and the Canadian nation, it is contended, is similar to what Blaine Higgs was doing to the Conservative Party and the province of N.B..
So, do we have basically a 'Trump' with Canadian characteristics? Here attached, for those interested, is a short summary of a particular reading of the evidence so far …
