As to Finnegan's Wake, I read that "Joyce explicitly claimed he was
retelling the history of humankind in a new way, centered on a primal family;
he claimed it was a book of the night, and a dream. But his only comment on
the 'dreamer' was that it was an old man dying by the Liffey"

I suppose that one can rerout the routes from Rome to the Liffey, but
I'd rather stick with viable networks.
