So I recently came across this new Lonergan YouTube channel. The posted material is great but the channel has a very small following and the videos have scarcely been viewed.
The community needs to find a way to integrate with like-minded channels with immense audiences if the influence of the Lonergan tradition is to extend beyond its established (and, it seems, not much expanding) minority presence within formal academic and ecclesial circles.
I left this comment on the channel 3 weeks ago. I did not expect any reply, and that expectation was met.
"Great to see this kind of content find a nascent home on YouTube. I had a brief exchange with Fr. Doran before his passing in which I suggested that the Lonergan community has a notable opportunity to become a more prominent and influential voice in the culture by growing a YouTube presence and interfacing with highly popular channels that, on the one hand, share the goal---even if they would not articulate it in this way---of realizing greater integrity in the dialectics of history and in the scale of values and that, on the other hand, are amenable to at least the philosophical (if not theological) dimensions of the Lonergan tradition's analysis of history. He seemed enthusiastic about the prospect. Eager to see this channel grow. Might we expect to see recordings of various Lonergan conferences and seminars regularly posted here going forward?"
