Anyeasy way to tell the difference? I ordered the comp mounts, and they were packed in paper, not in the typical bag with the Mazda part number on it. Anyhow, I replaced them before Mid-O, and I'd say I'm not certain I actually have the comp mounts given the experience. Any part number or marking difference? The only thing I noted was a concerted effort on the part of someone to mark the sides of the mounts with a white marker. I'm hoping that means "comp mount"!
IMHO, the comp mounts are better than the stock ones as far as strength. But that is the only difference. You will not notice anything in how the car drives. If you want something stiff, go to a poly mount like the ones I had made for STL/Prod cars. They are not legal for SM.
Funny, Brian, that was a test I was doing to see if the new mounts are better/stiffer than the ones I replaced. I was watching my videos before/after the swap. I was hoping the mount swap would help with the 2nd to 3rd gear shift (in the corners). It didn't help much, if at all, but practice will probably solve the problem.
To me, I can tell immediately when I start the engine. As the engine lights up and gives that shake, the stock mounts let the engine wiggle much more then the comp mounts. Then as I let the clutch out the Comps feel more direct and reactive, especially when using the more aggressive puck style clutch disc(even with the sprung center). Side by side comparison will show the difference.
I just ordered and received two of them. When I pulled my current engine I found that both stock mounts had been been broken. Rubber separated from the metal on both sides. Good thing these things don't have any torque, who knows how long I was racing with them like that lol.
The proprietary V8 cylinder block is further packed with Mercury Racing-designed and specified hardware. A Racing exclusive fuel calibration combined with the Quad Cam Four Valve (QC4) valve train enables the engine to produce 1,100 horsepower at 6500 rpm on 89-octane (95 RON) pump fuel.
A 6000-6500 rpm operating range offers unsurpassed acceleration for its power rating as well as unmatched durability and reliability. Engines are mechanically sealed with a tamper-proof ECU to ensure a level playing field for racers.

With a high power engine, your stock engine mounts (commonly referred to as "motor mounts") have a hard time keeping the engine from moving around under power. Also, factory mounts can crack with as little as 60,000 miles on them. We recommend changing these every time you have the engine out, unless you make a real habit of it.
These stiffer Mazda Competition mounts are made of 40% stiffer rubber to help keep the engine under control. Shifting will be easier as the transmission will move less - you`ll be less likely to make the classic 2-5 shift. There is an increase in noise, vibration and harshness - this doens't bother some people, but if you drive with the top up most of the time you might want to consider our stock replacement parts instead.
The motor mounts on my NB1 (non ABS) were fairly easy to come out and swap. Passenger side is easier for sure. Driver side requires a bit of dancing to do correctly. If you have headers it's probably super easy. My mounts with 160k miles in the FL weather were somehow not torn or shredded up too bad at all. They were a good 1/4" maybe flatter than these nice new ones, so I did have to move the engine around a bit to squeeze the assembly with the bracket on it into the engine bay.
These mounts greatly improved my shifting and engine flopping problem. Even though they didn't seem too bad, my engine wobbled and flopped around like it was trying to escape alcatraz. These guys are awesome. A little bit more noise and vibration (more of a mild buzz) felt but it's so worth it and I honestly forget about it driving around.
Night and day difference. When I first got my Miata the car was very hard to shift. Essentially at first I needed to wait for the motor settling down. And I could feel it from off throttle cuz the car would jerk a little bit. It was hard to put smooth power down. I thought it was my problem and learnt better throttle control. Today I had the mounts changed. Turnt out both of the old mounts were completely torn. Felt the difference right from turning the key. There is a ton less off throttle vibration. The shifter doesnt shake all over the place any more. Incrediblely easy to get in gear. Power was put down a lot smoother. In my special case, NVH is decreased (guess the old one was so torn). Will definitely recommend. My car is a CA spec 99 Miata. The precat did make removal a little more challenging but still doable. Just needed to dissemble the mount from lower bracket while in the car. Also taking off splash guard would help big time.
These things should be at the top of your priority list for anything from maintenance up keep, to increasing performance. For just over $100 and about 2hrs of work taking your time. It will change the feeling of your car so nicely.

The engine mounts feature cold rolled gold zinc plated steel brackets with gold zinc plated pins, hardware and aircraft grade 6061 billet aluminum anodized carriers that are machined in-house.
Unique to IAG's Engine Mounts is the ability to change the bushings to adapt to the needs of the car.
