Hi Carl,
It was great pleasure to be on your workshop today
Could you please remind me how can I get a source code for
the demo you showed?

Thanks.
Rustem.

Hi Rustem,

It was indeed a pleasure. You can find the source code here:

In the next meeting we will go over the workshop as it introduces most of the concepts.

Cheers,
Carl

Hi Carl,

Thanks for sharing the slides. Could you please elaborate on this
found in one of the slides(Advantages/Disadvantages):

"Level of phone access for location and telephony eg #0870 leads to
ability to make services that can only be achieved on mobile"

Thanks and regards,
Karan

You can actually hook into the telephony API. Lets say a user tries to call 0870xxxxx number, your appliction can catch that and replace the number it calls. This is what the 0870 app does:

When you call a number, an intent is broadcast. As for the SMS app, you can act upon that broadcast.

Clearer?

Hi Karan

That was one of my slides, iPhone and J2ME SDK in particular have no ability in the SDK to access the dialer of the phone, and it has to be achieved by handing your application off to another

Android allows this low level access to mobile specific features (ie in this case telephony)

Hope that helps

Kieran
