Hi everyone,

The next London Threads meetup will be at the London Hackspace on  Thursday, 19 April.  We'll start gathering from about 7pm and at 7:30 we will have a tour around the Hackspace and be able to have your questions about using the space answered.

Feel free to bring the project you've been working on.  It doesn't need to include electronics.  Also come with ideas of what you'd like to learn.  The Hackspace is a great place to learn how to do things like soldering, so we can have a couple impromptu tutorials if people let their interests and skills be known.

If you could RSVP to give us an idea of numbers, that'd be really appreciated.

See you next week,
Becky

Hiya -- I'm the progenitor of the LHS cutting table pledge, which has technically filled but is suffering first from a severe lack of time on my part at the moment and second from logistical problems--no suspending it from the ceiling!  I'm certainly open to new thoughts on this.

I'll try to drop by for this meetup.

Hi everyone,

Just a reminder that we're meeting at the London Hackspace tonight from 7 for a 7:30 tour/intro to how it all works.

Wren, it would be great if you could make it as well!

See you tonight,
Becky

It's looking unlikely for me as well, I'm afraid.  Anyone interested should email me directly.

Hello All,

I might be able to get a

DIGITIZER 44X60-CORDED-MANUAL BASE

which is a big table used to digitize flat patterns. That way you can change them, re-plot them, or, like I do, use them in a digital environment. (we allready have a plotter in the space...) It is big though so I do not know if people in hackspace are interested? But are we?

Also probably people can use them for things other than patterns? Is this interesting for us and should I follow up on this?

Probablz the table can also be put completelz horiyontal. so mazbe it might be in stead of the new cutting table? So a vertical table that can be altered to put horiyontal?

Let me know!

regards,
Marjolein

* the london hackspace probably does not have the space at present for anything the size of a cutting table dedicated to a single activity.  This is the current problem for the cutting table.  Any large horizontal surface must be either storable when not in use or be easily coverable so that other activities (laptops, soldering, assembly of projects, eating, etc. etc.) can occur on top of it.

*  I would not be in favor of replacing the cutting table with anything which does not also serve the function of a cutting table.

*  Finally, does this (which looks like a very large tablet to me with no additional functions) come with the software necessary to run it?  It looks rather proprietary.

If it can be flattened we can store it against the wall fairly easily
in a number of places, the same goes for the cutting table.

I agree!

I'm sure we can dispatch the reverse engineering group to sort that out
without too much trouble.

I have to say it looks like a rather awesome bit of kit, and I suspect
it would be useful for many people in the hackspace, not just the
threads group. The 3D printing crowd would certainly be interested.

Hello!

Yeah, I get that.

Ok, so opinions are a bit divided, how does this work in hackspace? I send the list an email probably but do I also need to put it on somewhere so people may vote or are there people with higher powers that can oversee the concequences and the benefits, and have a more important vote?

thanks!

marjolein

PS Maybe the surface can be made convertible? It comes with the scanner-click-thing... No software, I think. Connected to a simple computer, which had Gerber on it.

Hi Becky,

Is there a London Threadspace meetup happening soon at the Hackspace?

I was thinking it'd be cool to reorganise the textiles / arts crafts area at the hackspace to make it easy to use and see what's available for use? and also to make it a nice space to make things in, at the moment it could be better!!

It'd be really nice to meet other thready people who use the space too

Sian :)

Hi Sian,

Pleased to see some activity in this topic. I'd be happy to join a meetup sometime.

Hi Sian,

I think that sounds great. No, there's nothing currently planned, but please don't feel like any planning needs to go through me at all. Feel free to organise anything through this list!

We haven't met up in a long time and there's been some really great things happening at the Hackspace. I'd be very up for meeting.

Best,
Becky

OK, so...

It looks like people are up for meeting one evening this week to discuss the textiles / arts crafts area. It's been suggested Weds.

Do people from London Thread Space want to come and have a say too?

Sian
