Hi Sian,

This is on the following wiki page:

https://wiki.london.hackspace.org.uk/view/Equipment/Sewing_Machines

I've just (a bit late) updated it re the work done last year.. and that as far as we know it should be working fine.

It should also be pretty indestructible so possibly as Zsuzsanna suggests, it may well be a tension or fouling problem..

Cheers

Paddy

Subject: [london-hack-space] Industrial Sewing Machine

Hi All,

Have just had a tinker about with the Brother sewing machine at the Hackspace. It was working like a dream up until the bobbin ran out, when we changed it it started to snag and the under thread got caught up.

Does anyone have any experience with this machine who could meet with me to tinker some more or does anyone know when it was last used / where it came from?

If no one knows about it how shall we go about getting it serviced to make it purrrr again?

Sian :)

When my home sewing machine started doing this, it turned out it was just that I hadn't oiled it in a while.

However according the the manual on the wiki the Brother should not be oiled!

Have you tried following the instructions in the appendix to give the bobbin a good clean out?

Indeed, it has a sump and oil pump, and was recently refilled ..

Hello All,

Thanks for the speedy replies. After a bit more tinkering we've discovered that as Zsuzsanna said it was a tension problem, however it is a fault with the top tensioner. The machine is currently turned off and awaiting fixing.
