Hi,
Ars Technica seems to have sent someone around GE labs, how this isn't
some marketing rouse I don't know.
However this article on embedded software controllers having
engineering models of the thing they are controlling so they can best
see how to control it is, I think, very interesting:

It talks about how much a bugger chaos is towards the end when all bets are off.
