to London Scala Jobs
We are a small (~50 people) City-based company who build and operate control software for the energy sector. We specialise in demand-side response, where the National Grid pay large energy consumers to turn down their loads at peak times, to avoid power cuts. Our clients include hospitals, banks, office buildings, shopping malls, utility companies and manufacturers.

Our core product controls assets (pumps, generators, furnaces, etc) across the UK and Europe. We are rebuilding the server in Scala, and the hardware on the Electric Imp platform.

We need someone who is confident in Scala, and can also help out in other languages as needed. Electric Imp devices run Squirrel, our GUIs are written in React and Elm, and we are phasing out a bunch of legacy code written in Java and PHP (sigh). If you know any of those, or are willing to learn one or two (they're all easier than Scala), that would be marvellous.

All our developers come from an Agile background, and understanding what this means will be necessary for passing the interview process, which includes a pair-programming session.

Our new stack is deployed on AWS, and knowledge of CloudFormation or Terraform would be nice. If you understand (or want to learn) the issues around so-called IoT deployments, debugging hardware with oscilloscopes, or analysis of control algorithms, that would be welcome.
