New member request for training

Hi all,

Just joined the hackspace yesterday and am very much looking forward  to getting started! I am interested in getting a basic primer on the following:

Lathe

Bridgeport Milling

TIG welding for aluminium

Surface Grinder

Laser Cutter

Table Saw (I am am waiting to be approved on the wood mailing list before posting there)

The projects I am working on is a DIY CNC Router and scara robot arm 

I have experience with mig welding,  hobby CNC and hobby laser cutter  so am not totally new to some of these machines.

I live locally and am flexible on timings, if anyone can help out it would be very much appreciated, I fully understand people are busy so it may not happen straight away. Thank you very much for your time

Interesting projects

I'm afraid there's not much training going on in the space right now (for obvious reasons) and it's going to take a while to catch up with those who have already requested it when it resumes.

Though if you feel like donating a surface grinder to the space I imagine Dean would happily show you how to use it! We don't have one, I see there's still one listed on the wiki though, I believe that suffered a fatality in the move from Hackney, so I'm just going to see how we remove that from the list.

Hopefully Paddy will start up semi-regular laser cutter inductions before too long, so at least you'll be able to tick that one off.

A few points regarding the ‘hopefully Paddy will…’ bit.

1. I’ve only used it a few times since the new controller & Lightburn were implemented. Apart from sourcing some of the parts, I was barely involved in that, and I’ve not learned anywhere near enough yet to consider teaching anyone else.
2. I now live 40 miles away, and I’m pretty busy.

I’m happy to continue with physical maintenance etc. for the time being but it’s probably unlikely I’ll be in a position to return to being a laser trainer. Regarding both of the above I’ll be happy to pass on what I can, give me a shout if interested. The physical maintenance hasn’t really changed but the software part has quite drastically. So, stick yer hands up if interested, especially if you know Lightburn and we’ll try to work something out.

For what it's worth I'd be happy to pass on to others if I can can get briefed once. I have experience laser cutting and live locally so can be flexible with timings etc, if that would help getting trainng back up and running again
