Does anyone know how to set up the sandblaster and whether it is in working order.? I have failed to find it on the equipment list so not sure who is the maintainer and knowledgebase, I have never used a sandblaster so not sure what I am looking for in turns of setup.  Any guidance would be very welcome. Michael

It worked last time I used it, though that was over 6 months ago. I’ll be in the space for the work day next day if you can wait till then if not it’s pretty simple, there are two power leads which should be plugged into a strip on the wall to the left of it which need to be live. You need the compressor on and connected to the hose coming out at the bottom at the back and then there are two switches, one for the light one for the unit itself. Turn. Other on and away you go

This is also something that I am interested in using soon. Do you know what type of blasting media is in it? (If any)

I need to clean up some stainless that was brazed then left with flux residue which has caused a little corrosion. I’d like to clean it up to a nice satin finish so I don’t need anything very abrasive.

Michael, what type of parts do you need to do?

I’m afraid I’m not sure what media is in it, it was however serviced and re-filled shortly pre-pandemic. I’ll let someone more clued in comment on threat further

I am just cleaning up cold rolled steel, I had it powered up and the compressor attached, I suspect the missing element might have been the media,  There was plenty in the draw at the  bottom of the  "pumping unit" but I suspect that media might have needed to be in the bottom of the blast cabinet.  Does anyone have a manual, or know where the media is meant to be loaded into the system, otherwise I can wait for the next workshop day.

Michael, Did you manage to get your parts cleaned up?

Were you able to tell what type of blasting media the cabinet is setup with?

Oli No I haven’t had another go at getting it working, I will try next time I am there.  From what everyone says, it sounds like it could be as simple as transferring some of the medium from the tray at the bottom of the handling unit into the blasting cabinet.

I will let you know if I make progress.

Well, I’ve just had a look and as far as I can tell it’s fully working other than a minor air leak in one of the hoses. I will see if I am able to solve that today however it isn’t impacting function and there is plenary of media…..

Thank you so much I will try it next time I am in.  I am not sure what I did wrong when I tried it before, I may have not allowed enough pressure to build up.

You have to swap the hoses at the compressor and pull the on switch up, if you don’t do that then you’ll have zero pressure. Then there is a 13a lead to the left that needs plugging in. Turn both switches on the machine and use the foot pedal to use.

That’s good news! Does anyone have any idea what type of blasting media is in the drawer at the moment?

Aluminium oxide? Glass beads? Walnut shells? Something else? Etc.

Thanks,

Oli.
