I've ordered a couple of these ESP32 GPS Lora boards to play with meshtastic. For my purposes, I'll need cases for the boards and there have been a bunch designed by the community (e.g. this and this) to be 3D printed. Unfortunately I haven't been inducted to use the space's 3D printers. I joined the hackspace back in March 2020, but haven't been able to visit yet :D

I don't yet have the boards, they're probably a couple weeks out, but I can't help but want to tackle how I am going to get some cases for them already. The boards are also version 1.1 and the case designs are for 1.0 and I'm not sure if the dimensions have changed at all, so will have to check.

Is there anyone who might be able to help or suggest how I can get the cases printed? I put the files into Shapeways to get an idea and ~$30 for one box (no lid) was the cheapest option and I'd rather wrap them in plastic than do that.

Thanks
Dan

Hi Dan,

I'm sorry you didn't get to enjoy the 3d printers or meet any other members of the Hackspace as yet, but hang in there, it will be worth it in the end! There are people who have their own printers at home, so lets hope someone comes forward. If not I would suggest doing what you can with what you've got. It mightn't be too hard to make a little wooden box to the dimensions of the thingiverse cases with a drill and a handsaw. You could always replace it later if it turns out rubbish.

Just some thoughts,

Erica.

£5 for the case in markforged carbon fiber. https://markforged.com/materials/plastics/onyx
or will just print on my prusas for free in PLA.
