Hello!
Sorry in advance that i didn’t let you know in advance :)

I've a small working HP Scanner to give to Hackspace. I rarely need it and i have no space at home to keep it plus moving all the time and right now. I'd rather go to Hackspace to use it. And perhaps other people could find it useful... Or maybe use it for hacking purposes. I don't mind in fact :)

I left it in the laptop area with all needed cables.

Bests!!

Please go to the space and remove that scanner A.S.A.P.

To refer the rules, permission ought to be sought first - see the Bringing Items [1] page on the wiki. If you want to donate an item to the space if you don't have a valid use for it anymore, check the wish list [2] first, and then seek permission from the list *before* bringing it in. If it's not on the list, see permission on the list, but be aware that it's likely to be denied then unless it's a really nice thing.

We throw away a shitload of scanners and printers each month, and the space is not your personal junk yard.

Thank you for the kind donation, but we've got a scanner already.

We regularly get offered more computer equipment and scrap than we can handle.

If you look at the FAQ, https://wiki.london.hackspace.org.uk/view/FAQ you'll see how we dealt with this situation in the past.

Props to your initiative and your intentions though.

If it's still there when i'm next in the space, i'll dismantle it for parts. What model is it?

I'm not sure either of the existing scanners work well if at all, if the newly donated scanner is better we should keep it, rather than dismantling it.

Oops. sorry. just seen your replies. The scanner working well. Anyway i'll remove it.

Let me know though if other scanners work? Where are they in hackspace by the way?

Yvan, please watch the attitude. According to the wiki, we only have one scanner and it's not working. It would have been wasteful to throw a "shitload" of working scanners (exaggeration much!) if we don't have one working one!

Olja, have you checked the scanner we already have at the space? Canon LIDE one and lives under the A3 printer or sometimes on the Ikea shelf as you enter through the front door. It's always better to ask before donating, but if we don't have a working scanner it would be good to at least have one that works.

Cheers
Mentar

The Canon LIDE does work pretty well... as long it's plugged into a PC running Windows XP with the relevant drivers. I have done so on a VirtualBox instance of XP and it performed admirably.

Not sure that would be everyone's cup of tea though.

I used the Canon with the latest Debian jessie and the XSANE program and GIMP -- worked first time.
