Hi Folks,
I wanted to connect with you about MozFest, since I'm helping with the "Make the Web Physical" track. In addition to being a Mozillan, I'm also part of the Vancouver Hack Space, and a big fan of the maker movement.
As a refresher, the Mozilla Festival (MozFest) is an annual event in East London, hosted at Ravensbourne. It is a chance to learn what's new for building the web, join forces with open-source developers, design things you want to make real, make things, make new friends, imagine the next 100 years of making.
This year focuses on change agents, the kind of person who runs a computer club in their neighbourhood or wants to revamp their organisation in an open, webby way (sound familiar?). These are the people who are making a difference in their communities -- and we want them to come to Mozfest, meet kindred spirits and leave with inspiration and tools to increase their impact at home.
Similar to past years, there are 10 tracks exploring different themes: Build Webmaker Together, Connect Your City, Look Who's Watching, Make the Web Physical, Open Games: Ready Set Go!, Science and the Web, Skills and Badges, Source Code for Journalism, Teach the Web, Webmaking for Mobile. And lots of hands-on making, peer learning and epic coffee.
The call for proposals is open, and we would love it if you considered submitting an idea. The deadline is August 31, 2013.
I'm also happy to talk through any ideas with you, and, of course, what matters most is that you attend Mozfest, whether you're hosting a session or not.
While I will be hosting the Make the Web Physical track, I'm happy to help you propose a session for any track, and there is plenty of room for cross-track workshops and activities.
Making the Web Physical is where MozFest meets MOSFETS. Use sensors, actuators and more to meld the virtual into the actual. Make the web work your way, escape the tyranny of the glass rectangle! Connect the world to the web and the web to the world. High tech meets low tech and everything in between.
Help make the web physical! Propose a session:
