What is it about the storage request system that causes most of them to take this bizarre form ?

"Request for 2 days in the other (pls elaborate) (In the free space, safely stored)"

It's the auto fill box and the lack of a preview, I'd say. It does read a little like bad AI doesn't it?

Yes, I think it's trying to suggest input but people tend to either ignore the prompt or add to it without deleting the prefill.

Not sure it's possible to delete the auto-fill, it's in a separate box and un-editable.

some autofills are in greyed out text and typing any reply clears it out. I don't know how that works though.
