Hi Gemma,

We've got contact back from our supplier saying that they don't have a mirror set in our size available, so a set has been ordered.

What we're going to do for the meantime is clean up the old mirrors and replace the laser tube, this should get it back up and working.

We hope to get it back up and running by Sunday, but we can't guarantee a date just yet.

Hope that helps!

Kind regards,
Henry.
On behalf of the Laser Cutter Maintainers.

@12:17

I must personally wrote as improving at inform membership at particular Laser Cutter related issues from maintainers are huge against the past, when at most causes very lack. Guys now doing their best to keep people informed such they could, even, they are not wizards to make some magic and make things quicker then they are possible.

It's sad, as we are weeks out of LC, but at situation as it's related to waiting parts, there is no way to change it.

Way wit temporarily use old mirrors and spare LC tube is good idea, but not necessarily need bring full effect to all.

One "devilish" idea:

Could we put some kind of display (may be cheap Kindle Fire 7") to LC, where will be published last knowed status message, or operational info from maintainers, with alternative of "waiting list" for people who waiting when machine is working? Of course with publish it mirrored somewhere on the web :))
(So much administration probably)
It is not easy follow this info at ML for all people at all time...

In sci-fi dreams, this "display" could also provide actual informations about costs for working member on LC at real time, to help them to know easily, how much it was spend already and need to be pay into money box?
(Nope, this can't be happened since full cash less operation via membership virtual wallet will be introduced)

Can you confirm where from, name of supplier and when you estimate the new mirror to arrive please? My understanding is that at least one of our two maintainers will arrive this Sunday 4th December to clean the current old mirror and to then replace it with a new tube, which i hope has already arrived (please confirm?) If Sunday can not be guaranteed regarding the above repair, can either maintainer please respond in advance and keep everyone informed and updated, and is the anything i can do myself to help and assist you guys on Sunday to insure we have it back in action.

Many thanks fingers crossed. Scooby.

i suspect the maintainer will let people know when the laser is back in service and people shoudnt start planing too much till the "its working" message comes in.

Given you have received warnings in the past that resulted in your ban that included harassment of some of the lasercutter maintainers, being as far away from the lasercutter as possible would be the best help you could provide.

Raising relevant questions for the benefit of the community is not harassment :-)

Please accept our apologies for lack or mirrors, you keep them in stock for months and then several people want them at the same time and all of a sudden you have none left.
They're coming but it's a long way and everything is slow from China.

The grievance procedure and trustees disagreed. I'm not surprised to hear you haven't worked out where that line is yet.

Who said the harassment was for that? Obviously that harassment was before this thread as Scooby's ban was a couple of months back so not connected to this thread.

One thing we've found at Cambridge Makespace is having 2 laser cutters reduces maintenance overhead by more than half. Although I'm not sure if we use ours quite as much as LHS hammers its laser cutter.

Scooby: It's admirable that you're so keen to help the laser cutter get back up and running but you original post (1st Dec) sound rather confrontational. I'm sure that wasn't your intent but please remember the laser cutter maintainers are volunteers sacrificing their time and effort not to mention they use the laser cutter too. I'm sure they're doing everything they can to get it back up and running as fast as reasonably possible.

@Pinski1

You wrote exactly same as Inthunking about...

What about, from income by actual LC take second, smaller (79x50cm 60W machine is on Amazon by 1,6k GBP) machine, which could be used alongside big one?

It looks like two times more maintenance, but it could not be true. It could give freedom to time neccessary for repair one broken machine, and users could still using second one.
Smaller machine is now more obvious and could be little but more easy take spare parts for it (and quicker), it could occur less possibility as both machines will be broken at same time.

And, not at least, there is option end "mainteners hope war", when one machine could have 2 exist maintainers and second one another two volunteers.
On one side, there will option compete each other between maintainers groups, but, more likely, cooperate and redundant not only machines, but also maintainers, in case of need...

For users, there will be option to choose which machine to use (most projects do not need big one), but still LHS will be one of two spaces with bigger machine at U.K.
Possibly, there could be difference at price (not neccessary, our price is great).

In this case, my recommendation is also, build working PC station to allow users prepared their projects before go to machine and do not block machine with it.
It make risk, as people will try import their own files from their own computers, but not necessarily.
It could working easily like, as I prepare my project on "preparation PC", save it to NAS (or another network disk), where will be on,y one option to pick up it on production PC and machine.

It's not expensive so much and allow grown up capacity of Laser Cutter, make more freedom for commercial projects, which are presented anyway, and more freedom and secure for working status of machines.

Simply 1 preparation PC and two productive machines.

Of course, there will be some time, when both machine will stand by. But Inalready ask for some statistic, like usage, income, maintanence costs (outcome) and statistic about stand by, versus working, versus broken time.
It could give clue if ideawith second machine could help more then simply redundant of big machine.

To Sol;-

So why do you feel the need to raise such a harsh reply to Scooby, and YOURSELF raise the issue of a ban which you now admit has nothing to do with simply asking questions?

Liam, Dean and Scooby, stop replying to this thread. The only people who need to add anything are the maintainers when they have an update.

To point out that someone offering to "help" by being there during mantance when they have been warned and ultimately banned for threatening behaviour towards people he is claiming to be trying to "help" is a hollow offer at the least.

I don't believe we actually make significant income from the laser cutter. The user price isn't even set high enough to replace it when worn out : it's subsidised by the people who pledged for it.

I see no problem in asking for pledges for another one (maintained by a separate team to avoid extra work or conflict within the maintainer team). But I'd be quite surprised if you can get enough pledges - there are really only a handful of people who want it urgently and there are plenty of local alternatives. Perhaps a little more expensive but nowhere near the cost of an extra cutter.

Exactly that ^

It's amazing that Sol and Henry still want to maintain that thing with the barrage of abuse they've been getting from 2/3 people with regards to this, other equipment has had much less use and is down more often that the laser cutter. Please just STOP, you are not just putting the laser cutter maintainers away but you are discouraging other people contributing to the space.

That's because his concern is genuine, not faux, and actually in the interest of the Hackspace.
It's all too easy to be confused or blinkered by bipartisanism.

My statements related to the laser and members conduct have been observed behaviours and actual events observed or reported to me, my question have been related to this

I am confident any independent and objective person (probably external and not related or positioned)  would agree
