Hi, I was a member way back before the move to Wembley. I asked on the Discord and was told the current way to ask if donations are desired was to email the directors, but I haven't heard anything back from the email I was provided.

In short, a local elderly gent named Norman Davis recently died and his family were happy for most of his workshop to be ferried on to good causes. As there was time pressure I've relocated the bulk of it to my flat near Enfield town, and would like it to move on ASAP.

Of particular note;

Cast iron Lincoln table saw, tested, working, complete.
Bandsaw on floor stand.
Two crates of vintage molding planes
Large numbers of clamps, files, sash clamps, wood chisels, some saws
Various screwdrivers, spanners
Three Makita  6010D(?) battery drills with 3 chargers and several batteries of varying condition
Makita mitre saw, working but with damage to trigger interlock
Electric plane
110v extension box
Large Record woodworking vice
Small regular vice
Large bench grinder, working

SLMS already has dibs on the set squares.

If there's no interest from the space as a whole, some individual members have already reached out and I'd like to get it gone quickly.

Sincerely,

Sci

Hi,

Sorry, I just checked and your previous email to trustees went to my spam for some reason.

The short answer is yes, I think we are interested in multiple items. I'll have a word with the others tomorrow when they are awake.

regards

Jonathan

If there are tools not needed by the hackspace or other members, I'd like to suggest The Men's Shed at Maxilla Walk, North Kensington (under the Westway) as a possible recipient. It's another well-used community workshop with a bias towards woodwork. Other Men in Sheds instances exist and may also welcome donations.

I remember when Men In Sheds came to the UK (it started in Australia) there was some disquiet about it being exclusively for men. This is actually far from the case, at least in practice - I think the Westway instance is actually run by women - and it is intended to be not just a workshop but a support organisation for mental health by providing a community for lonely individuals (where men were perceived to be particularly in need because many similar organisations are attended mostly by women and pursue activities which would often not appeal to older men. As a result they are often part-funded by local councils and unlike Hackspace, do not generally permit commercial use. They also sometimes run other activities : I don't know about Westway but my local Shed has a 3D printer, a laser cutter, a 2D CNC, a well-equipped wood workshop, a model train layout and also runs classes on Art (painting), Chair Yoga and Bridge. It does have rather short opening hours but the Westway branch seems to have much longer ones.

I already tried the Enfield Men In Sheds group but was told they have extremely limited storage space and are not interested in any donations at this time. I'll certainly try other branches once I hear back from the LHS.
