Hi All,

For anyone interested in Table Top Roleplaying Games such as D&D and even for those who have never heard of it.

I am planning a weekly event every Sunday starting 25th November 2018 from 11am to 5pm using the classroom at the Wembley site. I currently have around 10 non-members interested and the games will be open to all members as well to come along.

The event will be run by myself but there will be a few other dungeon masters available as well so depending on final numbers we can run multiple games if we need to.

The games will be open to both new and veteran players alike so even if you have never played before we can provide guidance on building characters and how to play the game. All you will need to bring are paper and pencil. Dice and Rulebooks are available but if you have your own then please bring them along.

The main focus will be Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition however we do have players interested in other rule sets such as Pathfinder so this may become an option at some point. Games will likely be a mixture of official modules and homebrewed content.

The games will be free for all members to join in and there will be a small donation requested from non-members ,100% of which will go to the Hackspace.

I will try and get the event added to the official Hackspace Calendar of events however I will also be using this Meetup group to manage non-members and attendance: www.meetup.com/North-west-london-Dungeons-Dragons-and-more-Meetup/

If someone can point me in the direction of who I can speak to about getting the event on the Hackspace calendar, I would appreciate it. After which I will schedule the meetup.

On the day you will find us in the classroom. Just ask for Francis...that's my first name :-)

Look forward to seeing who else might be interested in joining in and hope to see you there.

Happy Adventures!

Hi Francis,

This sounds like it could be a good regular feature at the space. In
case you haven't seen it, here's our guide to running an event at the
space:

https://wiki.london.hackspace.org.uk/view/Guides/Planning_an_event

I think it would be problematic to block-book the classroom every
Sunday, but I don't see a problem with running a few sessions to see
how it goes. From a chat on IRC, apparently the calendar needs
updating and there are already some events booked in for later this
year.

Assuming you can work around those and there are no other concerns
raised, I'll be happy to add it to the calendar.

Hi Francis,

We have an Amateur Radio Exam scheduled for the 16th December. We will require the use of the class room for the majority of the day and during this period people will be prohibited from entering the classroom under any circumstances. Apologies for the inconvenience.

We will be sticking an announcement on the Mailing List and an entry in the Calendar in the coming days to make this official.

With regards to the weekly meet up, I can't see it being an issue right now, but other sub groups may wish to use the Classroom on the occasional Sunday so it might need to be reviewed in the future. A weekly event is also quite a commitment on those running / attending the event, so it might be worth considering a fortnightly or monthly event?

Cheers
Matthew

P.S, Registrations for the Amateur Radio exams are now closed, but we will be holding more exams in the new year.

Hi guys

Thabks for the swift response. I am of course more than happy to work around any other plans going on for the classroom. For now can i make it a one off event for next sunday and then we can see how it goes from there? Cheers

Hi Mark

Can you let me know when my event is up on the calendar so that I can confirm with my non-member attendees?

Cheers

Hi

Am I able to advertise my event for this sunday on meetup.com? It is not on the hackspace calendar yet.

Cheers
Francis

Hi All,

Would just like to say that my D&D event went very well. While only non-members showed up, there was 8 of us so we had a fun session and hopefully found some new members for the space. Big thanks to the hackspace for letting me host the event and would like to confirm that we want to use the classroom again next sunday 2nd december 2018 from 11am to 5pm and please remember this is open to all members to come and enjoy as well.

The last time I played D&D was just after the Advanced books came out,
how big a pile of dead tree (and wonga to pay for it!) is needed these
days?

Oh, and the books were all bought from Games Workshop when they were
still an innovative distributor of niche games instead of
concentrating on all that Warhammer shit.

Still a forest worth of books for the latest edition but you only need to spend what you want on it. Everyone at my group is happy to share their books and dice. Pencil, paper, couple hours of your time and an active imagination are all you need to have fun. And of course we are all willing to help with character creation, etc.

Glad to see that standards haven't slipped :)

There is so much choice in dice sets compared to when I used to play
(ie. more than one), if I was going to get into it again the first
thing I would do is buy one of the lovely metal sets that are now
available.

We are trying our best. The metal dice are pretty amazing looking. And the weight of them as you roll makes a very satisfying clunk on the table. One of our players has a set.

I hate those metal dice, they clunk too much. :-)

I'd love to play, but I can't make it there weekly.

Would anyone consider running a fortnight/monthly game if there are enough people? (I don't want to DM again)

Alternatively, if anyone wants to experiment with non-DnD RPG's, I'm happy to run some single session stuff.

Henry.

Hi Henry

More than happy to consider games that perhaps run fortnightly or as one-shots. The current group of players are a mix of D&D and Pathfinder fans and other games would be considered such as call of cthulu, shadowrun or cyberpunk. If there is enough interest then we would consider any game so by all means come along some time or ask on our meetup. You can find us here:

Hi All,

Just a general notice to say the D&D group had another successful meetup annd to give a big thanks to the Hackspace for allowing me to host it. We would very much like to use it again next Sunday 9th Dec from 11am to 5pm. I would again like to extend an invitation to all hackspace members who are interested in table top RPGs to come along and check it out.

I'd like to start running a monthly game of 5E, this is open to people who have never played before and experienced hands alike (members and non-members welcome), there will be 6 places available.

You don't need to bring anything but yourself and be able to commit to one session a month on a Sunday at the Hackspace.

If you're interested, reply here or poke me on IRC (Yetifiasco)

 Hi Henry,

Great to hear that I have a fellow D&D fan in the space. I have been running games every Sunday using the classroom from 11am to 5pm and plan to continue doing so in the new year. I have between 8 and 10 people, 2 of which are DMs so usually split into two games, all non-members at the moment with some interested in joining (I do ask the non-members to kindly donate something for the privilege of using the space). There is currently space for a third table in the classroom for you to run once a month at the same time.If you were planning on running after 5pm then maybe I could join in and others from my group might do the same. Or I can see if my groups would be willing to concede their ongoing games once a month to make space for yours and then can guarantee them joining in. You can contact me directly at francis...@hotmail.co.uk if you want to discuss more or we can catch up sometime at the space.
