Hi there,

I'm looking for a good solution to store various tools on a wall at home. The Americans love pegboard for this, but it seems like it's not such a thing over here - I can't find many suppliers of perforated hardboard, and those I can are very expensive. There are some metal & plastic solutions on Amazon, but A) unsure of quality and B) you can't get extra hooks/fittings for them. Ikea has a version, but it's not sturdy enough for big tools like drills/hammers etc.

Just wondering if anyone has any good suggestions for alternatives? I'm considering just throwing a sheet of plywood on the all and screwing things to it, but that seems a bit half-assed.

Cheers :)

I don't like pegboard. You either need a huge variety of specialist hooks or some generic ones that seem to fall out every time they're used. That french cleat system is good, but quite a lot of effort to build as each tool needs its own design of cleat.

I think the common english system of putting nails or screws in at the balance points, together with painted outlines - which not only help you put the tools back correctly but also link the screws visually, making it look less like a random board of nails - is as good as any.

the French cleat system looks quite quick and easy to make with the ability to easily expand/ move around

Thanks

I'd go for what Adrian suggested (nails/screws at the balance points and painted outlines to show where each tool goes) because it's quick to implement and gives you an immediate visual assessment of what you have and where it is; I'd start using tape for the outlines until you're satisfied with the layout, then you can paint
