Hi all. Been on contact with London hacker dojo who would like a space to  teach some hackers.
I was thinking we could use the quiet area. Currently getting their Dojo representive in to check out the space and I'd appreciate feedback from any and all who have helped with young Hackspace.

Judging by your comments on IRC you're planning to teach *young* hackers?

I organised the Young Hackspace events, feel free to get in touch with further questions.

Summary:
* kids need to be accompanied by a legal guardian to avoid insurance/liability problems, and they need to be made aware that they are responsible for the safety of their child
* for every event we spent quite a long time preparing the space: cleaning every room the kids would enter (clear out random items, hoover, wipe surfaces, etc), making sure there aren't any sharp/dangerous items around
* also need to make people aware that kids will be around so they can adjust their plans accordingly
* there's more; further details at http://wiki.london.hackspace.org.uk/view/Project:Young_Hackspace/Checklist

In general it involves quite a but of preparation, but it was always worth it :)

http://coderdojo.com/dojos/london/ is the link.
vi...@coderdojo.com would love to hear from us and hopefully will get
on the list sometime soon.

Twitter: @CoderDojoLondon

look forward to feedback and thoughts. I'll be around to help
supervise/teach if and when we organise it, probably on a weekend day.
I haven't been in much over the weekend but I'm wondering if we could
use the quiet room before/during/after lockpicking on Saturday And if
not we can always do Sunday.

Thanks all,

Thanks Martin.

I'm glad to hear it was always worth it at least.

On the topics you raised:
Liability - Legal guardians would be best I agree. I'm not sure
everyone will have this but I'll make sure we are not liable. do we
have any boilerplate forms or lawyer minded people who might have any
legalese to protect us from any insurance and liability to hand? We
can totally make certain that those are signed for every child at the
very least.
Cleaning -
I'm totally up for coming in a good bit early and preparing the space.
Extra hands would be totally welcome but I'm willing to do the
domestics alone if it needs doing, and it's always nice to see the
space clean and tidy.
Announcements -
I'll follow the same procedure for young hackspace when/if we know
about the class happening, and make sure I can use twitter, it'll be
on the timetable too.

One thing I do have in mind is PC's - I'm not sure if they'll have any
coming in with them yet. Do we have some donateables? I remember we
had a bunch of servers. Is it fesable to hook these up to monitors?
I'd be very interested in getting a boxful of raspberry pi's since
they're out... But we all know how hard they are to find atm but
they'd be so good for storage etc as it wouldn't take the space of a
lab of desktops.

Thanks again for your help so far. I'll definately come when more
questions arise.

It's worth noting that liability waivers mean nothing in the UK. Just
make sure everyone's aware of the risks and you're fine.

I will point out that we don't tend to let external groups use more
than the quiet room, and capacity of the quiet room
is 10-20 people.
