So, I need to attach a bike rack to a brick wall. I'm going to need a
bigger drill.

Since the hackspace seems to have a shortage of decently powerful,
working drills anyway, is anyone interested in a pledge to get one?

Gwyn.

Assuming you are a thinking about a corded one, I would contribute to a
pledge. Drills are basically the only power tool I use at the hackspace
and they seem to be eternally low on battery.

I have mentioned a corded drill to others before though, and it was
suggested that it would not be particularly useful.

Agreed!

How about http://amzn.to/nIiYsU ? £65 including delivery (I have Prime
so I'll order to my office and drop it off on the way home) and drill
bits.

Gwyn.

It's probably bext to start a pledge page and see what people think and
are willing to pledge.

http://wiki.hackspace.org.uk/wiki/Guides/Running_a_pledge

I am not a drill expert, but 65 does seem quite cheap.

It's not worth buying a hammer drill unless it's SDS. You can pick up
a name-brand SDS drill for about £90.

I can donate a corded hammer drill (non-SDS, ~650W) as I've recently
replaced it with an SDS variant. It's seen little use and is thus in
good working order.

There was a corded drill with hammer action.

It vanished. If you borrowed it, and haven't brought it back yet,
please let us know.

What would be the best way of marking the hackspace equipment?

Also TYVM, Elliot. I need one of those for more mountings...

I'd very much appreciate this - although if it solves my problem, it
knocks me out of the pledge for now!

There is a normal (i.e. power lead) drill with jack-hammer option in the space. Be sure to make sure it has stopped completely when you switch from rotate/jack/rotate+jack - as otherwise it will set a safety trip*.

It is fine for holes up to about 16mm in concrete and 32mm or so in masonry. The drill set left is very random - sorry! But fine for expanding anchors/boldts in the M8-M12 range.

Dw.

*: to unlock - there is a small hole on the left and right which then become pins you can press with something like a small nail.

Corded 710W hammer drill is now in the space on the rack. This has been donated to the space - I don't need it back.

If it's not wanted (I suspect this is not the case), then I'll remove it if anyone objects.
