[london-hack-space] Expiry of ban of Peter Meadows

Dear Members,

Last year Peter Meadows was banned for a year for harassment on IRC and in person as well as evasion of IRC bans. His bans expires on 5th of February. However email and IRC communication that he has recently sent to some members and trustees shows that he does not believe he has done anything wrong and some emails can be interpreted as vengeful and threatening.

It's not part of our grievance procedure to extend current bans, but the trustees have chosen to exercise their right to prevent Peter Meadows becoming a member should he try to do so. If his behaviour improves in the future we may reconsider our position.

What is the nature of the threats? Just legal or are we talking unacceptable physical threatening/verbal abuse?  If the latter, these should be reported to the police.

It doesn't appear on the face of it that Peter has learned the lesson the ban was supposed to have imposed and I think the trustees should have the memberships support (it's not difficult to see how badly this escalated with a bit of google-fu, especially the fall out on the wider hackspace world!)

This is not the correct to publicly and inappropriately expose someone in this way, it would appear that this Trustee has deliberately posted this tread in order to humiliate, expose and to both anger and upset this banned person in question, i also find this very disturbing that there seems to be a banned extension without fully explaining what was said or exchanged,  i see no reason why this needed to be translated here nor is this of anyone's concern, if there has been any email/IRC breaches or bans it has and will be dealt with internally and by the Trustees who decide this privately as is allays done , if this is an attempt for this poster to be searching for trouble or to to stir something then i suggest that he should put a stop to this right away and to commit more in he's role as a Trustee correctly.

This email was approved by the board of trustees to be sent to the list, not Eugene acting on his own behalf. Please do read emails fully before reacting so harshly to them, I think you owe him an apology.

Peter Meadows has contacted multiple members including myself with what can only be described as harassment, which has then been forwarded to the trustees.

Considering this behaviour, stopping him becoming a member is entirely healthy for all involved, we don't have to deal with his tin-foil lunacy and he can go find more productive things to do with his life.

Given that it's signed "Trustees of the London Hackspace" I highly suspect that it's not just a single trustees statement.

Since the stated problem is "email and IRC communication that he has recently sent to some members and trustees" it can't really be aired in public without, I suspect, causing you to complain that they're revealing personal email and IRC communication in public.

Letting the membership know rather than silently extending the ban is pretty reasonable.

If extending a ban is a problem with a lot of people we could do something like allow Peter to argue his case in a specific mailing list thread or something but... I suspect that wouldn't be terribly productive.

The Scooby 22 also extends to the ban itself. If it hadn't been
mentioned in public and had later been made public I'm sure there would
have been cries of secret cabals banning people outside of the grievance
procedure.

I have had 2 unsolicited direct contacts from Peter in the past few days, one via private messages on IRC & the other via email.

Both of these contacts contained clear and totally unacceptable threats to me.  This is also the opinion of those I have shown the IRC PMs & email to.

I have not responded to them.

If any of the LHS membership have received unwanted emails or PM's from Peter which they consider harassment, please do forward them to the trustees.  Thanks.
