Hello Hackspace team, hope you're all well, first time using Hackspace so please remove if I'm not doing this properly, but I'm looking to get a metal tip replaced on a cowboy boot, and was wondering if someone would be able to do it.

I have one of the cowboy tips, and have lost the other. It's a very simple design. I can't imagine it to be difficult to copy and create a new tip (even out of flat bar stock sheet metal bent to shape). I'm not looking for it to be perfect, but the boot company doesn't sell replacement tips.

Attached is a picture of what I'm trying to accomplish.

The metal cover is roughly 4.5cm x 2.2cm x 0.5 cm, however we'll discuss more next as the metal needs to essentially be 'wrapped' around the very tip of the boot, as it essentially hugs it as it's glued in.

Looking forward to hearing from you all soon. What a great little community you've got.

Warmest regards,

Tom

I would guess this was made by stamping over a mould.

On a small scale you might grind a steel block into an anvil to fit the inside of the piece, hammer it into some sheet on a leather sandbag, grind off the edge, stamp the lettering and then chrome plate.

Matching lettering font and chrome colour could be difficult At worst you mighty have to remake both caps

It might be cheaper/easier to find a similar but worn/non fitting pair. I don't know if they're common.

Hello,

Thank you both so much for replying and aiding me in my search.

Very helpful find, I found that listing before, however, I think the boot tip is actually 0.5cm shorter (width ways), than my current tip, as it's roughly a size 6, and mine are a 10, so unless it can be heated and 'stretched' around my tip, I don't think we're any better off.

I'm not fussed on it looking identical (I don't even need the lettering), just anything more than what they currently are is perfect. Do you know if you'd know someone in the hackspace team that could either stretch the metal of this donor pair somehow, or loosely follow the instructions you recommended Adrian? I'm a total newbie to this (obviously), so extremely thankful for your guidance in advance.

Warmest, Tom
