Hi,

Andy and Sci recently went to great effort to go through every box downstairs to verify which were owned by current members.

The following is a list of boxes which has been set aside as either they are unlabelled or ambiguously labelled or are labelled but belong to former members.
If they are not claimed (i.e their contents removed) within 1 week from this notification they will be reabsorbed by the hackspace/NOD'd/3 week binned.

Thanks,

Sam

Regarding to camera #6*- Classroom

7898 - Netta Peltala

is now at space, same as last few days, accompanied with her friends.

As I speak with her yesterday, she rejoining into hackspace as member just now after freeze gap. Means, should be her membership active within today reconciliation or not later tomorrow and her Bix moved back to members shelves.

The box "Stephane" @ A1-10, if it's mine should be on s03b03.
But I really don't know why it would have been moved!
It should have inside a Vtech toy piano, XLR to RCA cables, connectors...etc

Also my name is written on both opposite end of it, in blue.

Thanks

I would come round this weekend to check anyway

A reminder to all, it is now possible to print (at the membership kiosk) an "official" label for your box.

Using one or two of these will ensure minimum confusion when these periodic purges occur.

Hi 7o7oro, Myself and Andy did double check first through our members database before we removed your box from the racking
last Saturday to then be placed with the other 70 expired or unknown ones too. Did you have your membership number clearly displayed
on it? as they may have been a few other members too with the same name as yours hence why it was removed.

If memory serves, that sounds right.
There have been multiple members named "Stephane" however, and not all
are current or recent.

If you'd like to prevent confusion in future, please print a proper box
sticker from the reg booth upstairs.

Many thanks to Andy who cleared through all the boxes tonight to remove
those marked for disposal.
The useful contents have been distributed to the craft area, electronics
area and 3wk system.

The triage area should now be clear of boxes. Those "live" boxes that
were being stored there have been moved into free space on the actual
members storage shelves.
I'm afraid we forgot to mark what box moved where from the triage area,
but since everyone properly and clearly labels their boxes, they
shouldn't be hard to find.

It did seem the pile had shrunk a lot since the cleanup, which we will
assume was people collecting their belongings or relocating them after
renewing membership and not just dumping them back on the shelves again.

This all happened during EMF so I haven't been able to get to the space, but does "those marked for disposal" only mean unlabelled boxes? The agreed notice time for ex-member boxes is 3 weeks, and it's the middle of summer when people are most likely to be on vacation.

Marked for disposal meant those boxes the owners had replied stating
they should be disposed of. Those whose had renewed their memberships
since the box reminder had their boxes put back on the shelves.

I'm aware that the notice period on the wiki is 3 weeks. However it was
stated to be one week in the initial post in this thread. Possibly
because of the excessive warning period given before the clear-up began.
I'm sure Andy and Sam can state it with more clarity and authority than
I can.

The warning period didn't include names, so I'm not sure how that works except to stitch people up.

I see Ari Davies's name is on there - I know that his box was emptied and relabelled during the last clean-out, so it's likely you've thrown out someone else's stuff. And Mark Fox rejoined during the last cleanout - has he been able to pick up his stuff this time?

Messages were sent out to all the identifiable box owners directly. The
boxes that have been disposed of were the ones the former owners replied
about and explicitly stated that the contents could be gotten rid of.

Ari stated their box could be disposed of, so it was.
Mark renewed their membership, and so their box went back on the shelves.

This seems to have missed the point. If I read it correctly, Mark was
suggesting that Ari's box had previously been disposed of and that it
may have been recycled without removing Ari's name. In that case, the
box would have been mislabelled and the stuff that was disposed of may
have belonged to someone else.

The new owner should have labelled it in a manner more prominent than the previous label - like over it.

Hi,
Everyone whose box was due for disposal was sent a direct email.
Only those who were still non members when the list was rechecked yesterday and those who explicitly stated that their box could be discarded would've had their box removed. I think there's still a bunch of unnumbered ambiguous boxes hanging around.
btw Mark Fox's was marked as not to dispose as his membership was renewed (amongst that of others).

It's likely that this is going to become a regular (monthly hackday?) exercise so that it doesn't keep becoming an occasional epic massive chore.
I wasn't aware of the 3 week thing in the wiki but it was in need of some serious triage and a week seemed fair.

Apologies for the brutal approach,

Sam

You seem to be suggesting we should retain all boxes, even when only
identified as those of former members and those former members have
stated the box contents should be disposed of, in case someone already
has and hasn't bothered to print their own sticker.

Sorry, that's on your own heads. If you use a box, you label it as your
own. We're not mind-readers.
